If you are looking for something different than what's already out there

Shiv Nadar University is for students who have a different approach towards the entire educational scenario. If you are not from the same lot, there are a lot of other options for you out there.

The exam is called SNUSAT and the scores for your 12th standard are also considered in your application. The final scores are not revealed, just the status of the application. I saw it as an opportunity to explore different scenarios and then choose what I really wanted to dive into. SNU offers that, and so I went ahead with it.

It has a pretty good approach towards research. It allows and promotes even undergraduate students to take up research projects and assigns mentors accordingly. A fund can also be granted, based on what the proposal is, what it hopes to achieve and how well it has been drafted. A multitude of electives are offered ranging from Communications to Management to Engineering.

There is CDC department at SNU - Career Development Center. It is the placement cell and it looks out for good opportunities where students can intern during their vacations and project semesters.

The Career Development Center focuses a little more on the aspirants looking for technical opportunities. So if you are one of those who wants to make a 180 degree switch to another field completely, it becomes a little difficult. But that was a year ago. I hope they have come over this phobia of theirs.

The biggest fest Shiv Nadar University has is BREEZE. It holds a multitude of events and encompasses all three departments - Technical. Cultural. Sports. It generally goes on for three days and like any other college, will have you excited about it throughout the year. Apart from BREEZE, there are other fests and events round the year.

Shiv Nadar University will offer you scholarships which is divided into slabs. Your scores in SNUSAT and your 12th standard, combined with your interviews will determine your slab. The entire structure with scholarships is a pretty sweet deal. But without the mentioned scholarships, it is definitely going to pinch your pockets.

The scholarship details keep on changing year after year and it is advisable to go through the university's website or talk to representative from the admission's departments before planning ahead.

The Gender battle is pretty balanced at the campus. You'll find incredible diversity at Shiv Nadar University, because students from all over the country(and sometimes from outside too) will probably be your classmates. There are tons of things to do and I can pretty much promise that you won't get bored. A number of societies and innumerable events throughout the year will keep you busy and excited at the same time.

The hostel is pretty amazing, as far ass other college hostels are considered. It gives you ample pf facilities and proper accommodation amenities. The mess however is another story. The food is average. Good on some days. Bad on the others. But there are better alternatives. And you will get to know about them once you visit the campus.

Seniors are amazingly helpful. Since Shiv Nadar University has a mandate of residential stay, all students, irrespective of their seniority are bound in the same big family. This makes it all the more easier to interact with anyone and everyone.

The exam structure varies from course to course. There are courses which do not have exams, only participation. Then there are some where you only have one exam, at the end of the Semester. And finally, the typical courses such an Physics will have a Mid Semester and an End Semester exam with the occasional quizzes.

The faculty is well taught and extremely qualified, from prestigious institutes. The ability to teach however is subjective and differs from professor to professor as well as on their students. But I have encountered some Professors and Asst. Professors who will actually go out of their way to make you understand the simplest of concepts.
