Remarks
I applied for 1. CU( IT) 2. St. Xaviers(B. Sc. In Chemistry) I applied in S. C. Quota Min. marks for B. Tech - 60% in 12 boards ( But it's not a decisive parameter.... Admissions are made on the basis of wbjee state exam). So there were 3 rounds of counseling and i got JU(b.tech in chE) in the 2nd round. There was an option for up-gradation and I opted for it but the seat was not upgraded. An additional round of counseling was also held known as decentralized counseling. So there we had to reapply(those who were further interested in degradation). So there I got instrumentation and Electronics engineering.
Course Curriculum Overview
So i was not aware much of IEE, this was pretty new to me but I was not much interested in coding so I went for this course knowing i had the option to switch careers between core and non-core. Faculty-student ratio = 5:1 Qualification of faculty professors- most of them themed their PhD So we had our first sem after 3.5 months(due to covid everything was affected :( ). Then 2nd sem is after 4 months with mindsets of 30 marks in between.
Internships Opportunities
So for my personal experience, I'm currently only in 2nd year, so have not applied for internships yet But I have heard ... Students from our department gets internships from the core - TI, Qualcomm, Samsung, Honeywell, Wells Fargo, PWC as well as from non-core companies- amazon, de-shaw, Goldman-Sachs, jp morgan
Placement Experience
The one thing which everyone loves about JU is its placements. Students start receiving internships from the 3rd year, some even get in their 2nd year depending on their dedication. As far as the placement is concerned even in this year (covid batch )... Three students received a whooping 58 LPA CTC ( from the CS branch). For our branch, the average package was around 9.7 LPA with 88% students being placed and the highest package was 33 LPA ( he got into amazon). Even after all these placements, there is also opportunity off-campus. Some students even give Gate and get into PSUs (dream job of some students). Another noting feature that is only specific to our department is some PSUs directly hire ( only interview without giving gate) students from our branch.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are pretty less... For us a total amount of Rs. 5210 was taken (first and 2nd-year fees included). For 3rd and 4th yr separate fees would be taken I didn't apply for any scholarships but I heard they were giving two scholarships- Oasis and Seimens. In terms of affordability, this course is a gem, the cost is minimal compared to other engineering colleges.
Campus Life
The annual fest is Sanskriti which happens in the main campus and CIPPUS which takes place on the SL campus. Well due to lockdown both of them didn't happen this year The tech fest is called Srijan. I have heard this fest is very creative and its lots of fun The library is like a treasure, it's filled with books... One can spend an entire day there. Each campus had separate libraries. Almost all the clubs like science club, entrepreneurship cell, dance club, music club, literary club - everything is run by students. The science club is super exciting, you can publish journals or blogs there and they also organize this event called 'Stroke of Insight' where they bring various alumnus of JU who shares their experiences of their respective fields of work.
Other Applied Colleges
Calcutta University | B. Tech in IT(Information technology)
I didn't thought i would get JU at that time , so it seemed a fair option at that time
