Remarks
I had applied for Netaji Subhas Engineering College, Garia in the Information Technology department. But later I got a chance to get admitted here, thus I changed the college but got the stream Electronics and Communications. But it is a good department too because here you get an added advantage of learning both machines and software. You have good chances in placements since you can apply for both Core and IT jobs. I didn't avail any quota since I belong to the General category. I guess there's no minimum age for applying in B.Tech in the colleges under MAKAUT. But for applying to these colleges you need to have valid 10th, 12th marks and the required rank in the WBJEE and JEE exams. In our time that is in the year 2020, starting from counseling to admission, everything was online. It is pretty easy nowadays to do everything online, so don't worry about it. If you have to worry about something, then read well and do your best in the entrance exams like WBJEE, JEE, etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this particular course because, in ECE, I can get a taste of both the electronics and software parts. Moreover, during placements, we can get an added advantage to sit both for Core as well IT jobs. Faculty: student ratio is okay. Whenever we address our problems in the class, the teachers make us clear our doubts again and again and they are really humble and helpful. To be honest, the teachers are highly qualified. You can often find teachers having Masters and PhDs in their subjects. At least, everyone, has their Masters done. The teaching method is also okay but you can't expect the online teaching model to be the best but everyone tries to make it worthy. The term exams are often found to be up to the standards and we receive good grades in the exams too. It isn't too difficult, I would say but make ' consistency ' the keyword in college life.
Placement Experience
From the mid of the 7th sem (4th year), students are eligible for campus placements. A good number of companies visit our college and make a lot of offers where students get selected. The highest placement this year has gone to 19 lacs and the average package is 3-4 lacs I guess. Almost 80-85% of students get placements every year. I have many plans after getting the degree like maybe going for Higher studies, or getting places in some good job, or going to the Defence.
Fees and Financial Aid
They haven't hiked the fees but charge the same as before, which now appears to be difficult for many of us to pay for. You can get a lot of opportunities for studying and all-around development. The cost of the study isn't much but due to COVID-19, a few students are having issues regarding paying the fees. We didn't have any such scholarships provided by the college. But there's no financial assistance as far as I know. Yes, if you can make it useful, of course, you will land a sober job after 4 years of college. But there's isn't 100% placements but it is more than 80% since it's a Tier-3 college after all.
Campus Life
The tech fest is known as EDGE and it is conducted in the month of May-June for normal time, but for us, it was held during January. There are a variety of clubs present and they conduct their own fests individually and you will really enjoy it. EDGE is the biggest Tech Fest of Eastern India. There's a huge availability of books in the Book Bank of our college. Amenities in the classrooms are present just the way it's present. No huge pompousness but set just according to the needs of a student. You can't expect huge grounds for colleges lying inside a city, but we are being motivated for sports and extra-curricular activities. It's held on some other grounds nearby. Here you will never get bored because the whole year some extracurricular activities are happening. Some social groups, clubs are present and they remain active so much that you can't remember the dates and all. If someone is having offline College Campus life, will surely enjoy it to the fullest.
