I completed my diploma from S.B.M. Polytechnic, Vile Parle, in Industrial Electronics with 85.17 Percentile. I joined K J Somaiya because of the teaching expertise it provides along with exposure to all kinds of curricular activities like sports, cultural events, project competition. Also it has an amazing campus with all the facilities available inside the campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is properly distributed considering the theory and practicals. It covers the broader perspective of all the field related subject and each subject is satisfactorily sectioned depending upon the research and practical point of view. Thus the curriculum for the whole 4 years period is nicely distributed which is easier to understand and comprehend.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, it provides internship programs which are generally during the vacation period which is after every semester exam. Stipend may vary on the company being offered. Overall experience is satisfactory.
Placement Experience
Placement and job opportunities is one of the biggest advantage of K J Somaiya College of Engineering. World class IT companies like Microsoft, Infosys, Accenture as well as Core companies viz. Larsons & Tubro, Blue star, also join the hiring process during the placement. The CTC offered by each company varies on the post they offer.
College Events
Various technical events like Abhiyantriki includes all technical project exhibitions, paper presentations, etc. Symphony is the cultural event while Skream is the sports event.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are several scholarship and loan facility offered by the college. P.U.S.H. is one of the scholarship facility provided by the college which is the faculty members contribution together to deserving and needy students.
Campus Life
Campus life is extremely happening as the provide sports and gymnasium facilities to each and every student. Any student is allowed to use all the facilities by just showing the college ID card. Gender ratio is 60:40 male:female which is satisfactory. Other events like debate and sports competition are also organised which are quite fun.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is inside the campus and is at a walking distance of 4 to 5 minutes. The rooms are quite small compared to the number of students that share the room. Consider the above reviews on the basis of the student staying there.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni students also participate through some events like maker mela and others. Alumni are also in touch with the institution through Emails and events organised by the college.
Exam Structure
Exams structure is quite hectic but it is an issue with every engineering college as the syllabus is huge and very less time to complete it. The follow up process of faculty is plausible which helps the student in covering the important part and points which are necessary foe the semester exams.
Admission
The admission process included of online as well as offline procedures. I being a Gujarati was eligible to sit for merit based reserved seats for BE in K J Somaiya as they have Gujarati Quota reservation in their system. The admission process was a bit lengthy and took a lot of time but was efficient in terms of pure merit basis selection.
Faculty
The faculty members of K J Somaiya College of Engineering are extremely efficient and accurate in what they teach. Members consisting of lecturers to Lab assistant, each and everyone is helpful and are available to help the students with any kind of queries or doubts.
