Entrance Preview

I undertook IIT and AIEEE. I missed out on giving IIT and hence could not get into them. I received an AIR of ~28000 and opted for UIET. The college was near to my hometown and the i was able to get a good stream hence i opted for this.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

There was no process of electives till the fourth year. Even in 4th year the option of electives was limited to two different subjects with rest of curriculum being the same. It is overall just a cramming exercise with zero focus on new research. The curriculum was designed without adequate planning on the focus areas per year wise and there is no freedom to choose your subjects as there is no elective.

Internships Opportunities

No. Our college was also unable to provide free internships. It was upto the individual to find internships as they were a mandatory part of the curriculum. The support offered was zero when it came to paid or free internships.

Placement Experience

2

The placement opportunities were limited for few streams. It was generally stream dependent. Courses such as Electrical, Electronics , Mechanical and Biotech did not have much technical companies who offered placements. Yes there were software companies who came but they were not relevant to other fields. On an average the placement ratio was close to 60% with rest not eligible or did not get a job.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is feasible. The academic fees for a year was 70 k which was split into two halves in each semester. Adequate time was given for payment and there were no severe punishments if the payment was delayed. There were relaxations for different quotas. In addition hostel fees was also paid by students who availed hostel facilities.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, such facility was offered by our college. Any scholarship that might be granted by the university were generally for students with severe atrocities faced and not on merit basis. The scholarship was a max of 70% of the fees.

Campus Life

1

The gender ratio was close to 60/40. Our college being in Panjab University was highly influenced by political parties. Any affair related to college was handled by these parties. This provided a bad name to institute with even rifles shots were fired during placement day. That was the amount to which they were involved ind day to day functioning.

Exam Structure

Exams are conducted in two ways end semester and sessionals. Sessionals are conducted in a best out of 2 scenario. The schedule is generally light with adequate gaps. Labs were not very frequent but were accommodated in the time table so that it represents a total no of 5-6 labs in a week.

Admission

The admission was through a joint counselling process for PEC, UIET, CCET and UICET. There were a total of 3 rounds that i participated in . The counselling lets you choose the stream and college on the basis of your rank. The form was available online and a single form would enable you to participate in the counselling process for all colleges.

Faculty

3

The overall academic strength of the faculty was good with majority holding a P.H.D or pursuing one; however, barring a few there was no initiative from the faculty to improve the learning or provide guidance to the students. The lab facilities and teachings were namesake with no faculty members taking pain in making the students to grasp the skills required in practical world.

Placement Experience:

Since the first batch of VLSI is yet to be placed I would take example of ECE for reference. Out of 110 students which sat for placements , 91 got placed , median of 13 lakh with avergae of 16 lakh and 61 lakh highest on campus. These are of 24-25 and this year placements are better as even apple visited us after an hiatus of 3 years. In core electronics , Samsung Rnd , TATA electronics , Cadence , Micron etc visited for tech , UKG , PhonePay , Oracle , Accenture etc vist in consulting and finance , Mckinsey , JP Morgan , GoldmanSachs , AmericanExpress visit. After my btech I plan to do a job.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course plan around 7 out of 10 in terms of relevance and depth. I chose this course mainly because it includes core tech subj like DSA, DBMS, OS, AI and cloud, which are useful for jobs in tech field. The presence of lab work and proj based learning also influenced my choice. The curriculum gives a fair base in theory and basic prac skills. It helps in campus place prep and also builds base for higher study like MTech or MS. But real world skill still depends a lot on self study, online course and side proj. Some topics feel updated, but a few subj are still too theory heavy and not linked to real case use. Exams are held twice as mid test and once as end term in each sem. There are also quiz, viva and lab eval. The level is moderate. If you attend class and revise notes, it is manageable. For improve, more live proj, hack event, ind visit and case study should be added. Teach method should shift more to code demo and less slide read
