A review on Institute of Engineering and Management Kolkata

For admission in the Institute of Engineering and Management Kolkata, the eligibility criteria is the candidate needs to achieve 60% in his/her 10+2, having maths and computer in 10+2 will help, if not it will not matter much as the faculties start teaching everything from a basic level. I did not have any such counseling session but the person whom we were referred to during my admission was very helpful and well behaved and explained all the pros and cons in detail. The way he cleared our doubts and explained us about the college made me decide to take admission here as it would give me the opportunity to explore my interests.

I had decided during my class XII to take up BCA as UG course because I was interested in coding. IEM has given me the opportunity to explore this field and has taught us the programming languages that are needed to develop projects in today's world. About faculties I would say they are open to all our doubts even after college hours. We have mentorship programs 1-2 times per year where we can talk about any problem we are facing be that personal or regarding studies to our respective mentors. The faculties explain their respective subjects really well and provide all the study materials as soon as we finish the class/chapter. We have term exams after every 2-3 months and if the student is well prepared with all the study materials that are provided it will not be that difficult to get a good score.

I had opted for internships off the campus but some of my batchmates have done internships from SAP and they got selected in the internship via an online aptitude test which we were instructed to give by our institute. We are having research papers for our Minor Project where our topic is Email Spamming and Malware Filtering using Machine learning with Python, some other teams are working on real time startup projects as instructed by their mentors.

From the 4th semester, the main preparations for placements start and we have classes for aptitudes from the very 1st semester. From 5th-semester campus placements get started and it starts generally in the month of August or September. Companies like Deloitte, Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys, and many more come to recruit from our institute. There are many students whose 5/6 job offers and packages offered on average are 3-3.5 lacs p.a approximately. Percentage of a student getting placements are almost 100%.

The fees in the Institute of Engineering and Management is affordable enough. The semester fees are 50,000 which needs to be paid after every 6 months. There are exam fees as well which need to be paid before every final semester exam which costs 1200.

Annual and tech fests take place regularly in our institute. Fests like Smart Makers, Nirvana happen every year in the month of November and February respectively, and many more are there. Book availability is quite good in our library but if the student is attentive enough in the class books will not be needed for him/her. There are projectors in every classroom including whiteboards or blackboards. Almost all the classes are air-conditioned. We have 2 seminar halls where various events take place. We have annual sports in the month of February every year. Extracurricular activities are given much importance in our institute. We have MAR points for extracurricular activities which are added to our semester exam marks and accordingly the percentage per semester is calculated.
