Remarks

College management is really good. SRCC in all is one of the best colleges. Not just because of its academic performance but it provides the student a platform to discover themselves and make friends for lifetime.

Entrance Preview

Admission to this college was based on the marks a student scores in his/her class 12 board examinations. I gave CBSE board examinations in year 2014 and got an aggregate of 98% in commerce stream. Making your way through this college itself is a task because of the whopping cut-offs. I opted for this particular college because of its reputation around the nation and its ranking of being the best college for commerce aspirants.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Bcom (Hons) is one of the courses offered by the Delhi University which has the highest cut offs, the reason being the industry demand for this course is relatively more. The course throughout the three years equips the student with business acumen. You can also pursue courses like Charted Accountancy, Acturial Science, CS etc. The course provides detail knowledge in Accountancy, Economics, Law and Finance. It is an amalgamation of all the commerce related subjects. It gives the student to discover his interest which he was previously unaware of. The course focuses on the general awareness of the students as well. Most of the teachers allots their students assignment on the basis of ongoing changes in the nation. For eg- I was once allotted an assignment to study the effects of the budget 2016 on the domestic and well as foreign investors. The students are marked on their internal assessment on the basis of presentations, viva, assignments, research on any specific topics, Business plans, etc. It is the initiative taken by the teachers in our college which truly makes it the best commerce college in the country. The style of teaching, assessment and participation in our college is nowhere to be seen in any other Delhi university college.

Internships Opportunities

Yes there are a few (not many) internship opportunities given to the students during mainly the second year. Companies like JSW, Citibank, were some which offered stipend ranging from Rs 10000-20000/month for the duration of 1-2 months. The other internship opportunities usually had less or no stipend. I didn't apply for any on-campus internship but rather applied off-campus because of higher stipend. But those who did landed themselves an internship from college had a wonderful time and found the internships really enriching. Most of them required client work, follow up of business plans and formulating of business strategies. Some of interns, who gave exceptional performance were also offered a PPO (Pre-Placement Offer).

Placement Experience

4.5

SRCC has the placement success rate of around 85%. From the batch of 800 students, around 400 apply for placements and from the batch around 320-350 are placed successfully. This year the highest package was offered by EY-Parthenon for INR 30 Lac and ended up selecting three students. Mckinsey & Co, Bain & co, A.T Kearney are some of the consultancy recruiters which hired a total of 10 students and the package ranged from 10L-15L p.a. A lot of firms also recruit for the profile investment banking like Citibank, which offers 12L p.a. The average package is of 6L pa. Last year a total of 50 companies recruited. Reckitt Benckiser, O3 Capital, Kotak Securities, Ab Inbev, Wipro along with 15 other companies visited the campus for the first time to hire young talent. The big four of the auditing world (namely KPMG, EY, PWC, Deloitte) participated in the on campus placement activities.

College Events

5

SRCC is known for two of it's main events. First Crossroads, the annual cultural festival of SRCC. Crossroads’16 – the annual cultural festival of Shri Ram College of Commerce was a grand 4 day affair from 5th to 9th March which saw an amazing lineup of stars, activities and competitions. We see a number of competitions going on in which participants across the nation participate. A whopping 20-25 lakhs is spent in organising this 3-day fest, which is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in the University of Delhi and boasts of a performance night where great artists like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kailash Kher, KK perform every year. Another festival called "Ecostosy" is organised for by the Economics department of the college and again observes wonderful participation in events like Quizzes, Debates, GDs, 'Mock Stocks' etc. Numerous other college-level events are also planned by the different committees of the college. Apart from that there were many food stalls, fun activities round the campus. Crossroads 2015 saw the performance of Atif Aslam for the first time in Delhi university. Second, Business Conclave, the biggest management festival of SRCC. It has one of the advanced management and csse study competitions and involves the a Start-Up Panel Discussion moderated by Mr. Jaywardhan, with CEOs from some of the most successful and famous start-ups Nearbuy, FoodPanda, Fresh Fal-Sabzi, MapMyIndia and author of the book ‘Golden-Tap’ apprised the gathering of their experience in the world of startups and talked about their ideas. Day 2 of SRCC Business Conclave saw Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, gracing the Shri Ram Memorial Oration at SRCC Business Conclave. Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, then shared his iconic stories of success which came about by staying and facing problems faced. Mr. D Shivakumar, CEO of Pepsico, India, talked about the role of Youth in India who have the power to reshape the country. Mr. Derek’O’Brien, Member of Parliament, Quiz Master and Author, talked about the ideal attitude towards failure.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As of now the fee is around ₹15,000 per semester which comes to ₹30,000 a year or ₹90,000 for the whole course. Fees is low in srcc. Now it is 15000 per semester. It is quite feasible but still higher that that of other colleges in Delhi university because of its infrastructure and faculty. Other colleges have a fees of around 5000 per semester. Students belonging a lower income group can apply for the financial aids if they comply with the eligibility criteria.

Fees and Financial Aid

Following are some of the Scholarships and Financial Aid provided by the college. SRCC Student’s Union Scholarships. Two need-cum-merit scholarships of Rs.12,000 each per annum for students of second year. SRCC Alumni Association Scholarship. One need-cum-merit scholarship of Rs.12,000 per annum for a student of B.Com (Hons.) or B.A. (Hons.) Economics in the first year. The scholarship will continue in the second and third year provided the student maintains on an average at least 60% marks in the preceding two semester examinations.

Campus Life

5

SRCC is the one of the few colleges in the University of Delhi to have a swimming pool facility. The College maintains its own fitness centre. It is located inside the multipurpose hall in sports complex possessing equipment for free weight exercises, bodyweight exercises etc. The College campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled which can be accessed by students and staff members in the academic block, tutorial block, corridors, open areas, hostels and sports complex. The College has a state-of-art international standard multipurpose indoor sports stadium. It has a seating capacity of about 1200 spectators. The courts laid with wooden planks are used for Badminton, Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Judo, Wrestling, etc. Besides this, a separate room for chess and table tennis is also provided in the stadium. The College also has a hockey cum football field.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The College has a Boys and Girls Hostel within its campus to accommodate students who come from the different parts of the country. The Boys Hostel has provision for accommodation for one hundred and fifty students across various semesters. The Girls Hostel provides accommodation to fifty three students. Hostel has a separate dining hall, common room and washroom area within the hostel. The rooms are furnished. The Mess is operated thrice a day at breakfast, at lunch and at dinner. Wi-Fi facility is also available in the Hostel. Laundry services are separately provided within the campus for residents. The mess food is average.

Exam Structure

The students are assessed on thre grounds external assessment- which involves the a 75 marks paper of each 7-8 marks question each. For every pair of 15 marks there is an optional question that the student can attempt. It's a 3 hour paper and the papers are checked internally. Students give these exams in college itself and there are around 4-5 subject papers per semesters. Internal assessment- which constitutes 20 marks for each subject. 10 marks of this belong to tutorial teachers and the other 10 marks to the class teachers which they might assess on any criteria which they might seem appropriate. Attendance- this constitutes 5 marks for each subject. SRCC isn’t that strict when it comes to attendance. Students have to maintain the three years aggregate upto 66% failing which they’ll loose out on the internal marks reserved for attendance. Fortunately, stuffs like withholding admit cards and year backs are not seen in the college. Frankly speaking, students don’t bunk any lecture and thus attendance is maintained regularly. Teachers who personally know students and are aware of their performance in other external courses like CA, CS tend to favour them and allow them further relaxation (as low as 10%).

Admission

The year I got in, the cut off for pursuing B.com (Hons) was 97.25% and for pursuing Eco (Hons) was 98.25%. for general category. (for OBC, SC, ST, physically disabled it is much less). As of now the fee is around ₹15,000 per semester which comes to ₹30,000 a year or ₹90,000 for the whole course. Fees is low in SRCC. Now it is 15000 per semester. To see if the student has met the eligibility criteria is the calculation of best of four percentage in which the student can choose any four subjects of his/her choice (considering English is compulsory). The student is also required to have studies Maths in class 12, irrespective of the marks obtained. However, passing all the subjects is a must. The admission process is quite simple. You just need to the Delhi University Admission form prior to the announcement f the cut offs. If you have a percentage higher that the cut off of the college for the respective courses, you shall follow the instructions specified by the college regarding the admission procedure. SRCC's admission procedure only required filling up of a form and depositing of initial fees.

Faculty

5

SRCC has one of the finest and most reputed professors teaching across the university. To describe this, I would just like to give one pointer- Books which are referred and followed by throughout the university are written by the professors which are teaching in our college. The professors are highly qualified. Some of them also provide their expertise the national economic planning. It is often seen Arun Jaitley (Finance Minister) visiting our college frequently and spending time in the committee room with head of the departments. Most of teachers are PhD and have successfully published their research papers. The teachers personally are very talented, they often explain the topics in a very innovative and unconventional way. They are always their to address the queries and problems of the students. They also assist the students in carrying out their research papers.

Placement Experience:

Placements in my college are decent but not very high compared to North Campus colleges.Students usually become eligible for placements in the final year with decent cgpa and good skills. Some companies visit the campus for roles in sales, marketing, finance and HR. The average package is moderate and only a limited percentage of students get placed through campus. Many students prefer internships during college to gain experience and earn extra money. Some also plan for higher studies like MBA or prepare for competitive exams which I also do I personally plan to gain work experience first, earn some money and then go for higher studies. Overall, placements are average but hopefully they will increase in future.

The highest package of my college is 36 lakh per annum from bcom H programme. The placement is very nice from my collegem the average package is 6.7 lakh per annum and the median package is around 8 lakh per annum which is very good in my views. But if the students is not focusing in his academic then no college can give him placement, it's just a exception. The students become elegible for placements after 2nd year and before 3rd year basically they just got PPO that is preplacement offer. Bain & co. , de shaw , Accenture , oyo, Swiggy.
