Remarks
I am very glad that I joined this college. As these are our developing years, it's necessary to have a certain discipline in our life along with the fun. This college certainly understands that. The faculty is amazing and well-qualified and are very happy to solve your doubts. The senior students are helpful and often are your guide in the initial few months of the college. You will never know how your time will pass as everything goes around so fast. The only time you will face management is during the admissions and I can guarantee you that you won't have them in your life until the next year. The professors are out-going and preserve the mentality of students. See, at the end it doesn't matter what college you get, the only thing that matters is what YOU do during that time.
Entrance Preview
Okay, so as I am from Maharashtra, I took the MHT-CET '16. Though I am not sure whether the admissions take place through that same exam or not. I scored a comparatively humble score of 139. My rank was around 5K. While applying for colleges, I applied for VESIT, KJSCE, VJTI and ICT. As didn't get the branch of my choice in those other colleges, I opted for this one because it still counts in top 5 colleges of Mumbai.
Course Curriculum Overview
Okay, so VESIT comes under MU. And as expected by me, the syllabus needs a dire reform. In the first year, everything you do is to get the marks to pass the exams. As far as it goes for me, I don't think anything was related to engineering as such except Mechanics.
Internships Opportunities
As I am in the first year, I don't really know much about internship offers our students get. But I can certainly tell you that, there are many collaborations of student communities with firms like Internshaala, etc. And interested students can easily apply for internship (paid/not paid) if they are genuinely interested and have the particular talent in the said field.
Placement Experience
The placements of VESIT students can certainly count among the bests in Mumbai. Recently, the highest package was around 1.7 million INR which was offered by Morgan Stanley. Also, it's not necessary to have a 9 pointer in your exams. I have seen people who have had brilliant projects but with average point ratings getting amazing packages and those with very high CGPAs remaining jobless.
College Events
There are many events celebrated here. During the first few months of my college, I was astonished by the number of extra and co- curricular activities here. There was Udaan, Bliss, Praxis Techfest, Illusion, Sphurti, Utsav, etc. The list goes on and on. Also, other than this, with many activities by Cultural Dept, SoRT, it's quite assured that you never feel bored.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is on a pocket-friendly side. Compare to KJSCE which charges around 1,60,000 INR, the fee here is quite less (1,02,000) for OPEN category students. For reserved category students, the amount is even less than this. Though this is just the academic expense, due to the location of this college, the yearly expense for travel must go around 4-5k. But if you manage to find a feasible way for transport, you are in luck. PS- there are talks about a bus service from college to nearest railway station. So if that happens, its win-win situation.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are many scholarships in place to help and uplift the economically weak students. There are many govt. sponsored scholarships which can waive your entire fees for academic year. However you have to score good marks in your exams to apply for certain scholarships. The Narotam Sheksaria scholarship is very good and the rewards are healthy. If you are eligible and meet the requirements of the scholarship, you are in for luck.
Campus Life
First let's talk about campus life. I wouldn't say that its the most hot and happening kind of campus but then again you are here to study, so... With a lot of greenery around here, its certainly is peaceful. The college building is in arc shape so that is just amazing to look at. The classrooms and corridors are very clean and you can often find students studying or playing games on floor or in staircase. The gender ratio is very high. In my class, its almost 1:1. Diversity can be generally seen in branches like EXTC, Instrumentation, ETRX because almost 3/4th of class of COMP and IT is occupied by Sindhi students owing to Sindhi minority. Students from Mumbai Suburbs as well as from Mumbai are seen. Also the students from hostels mostly are from the east side of Maharashtra and North India. The labs are very well occupied and well-furnished. Extracurricular activities are a part of almost everyone's life. You can often see students playing in Gymnasium or in the campus. Even some chess games are enjoyed in canteen ;) The library is just huge. Its just tiring to walk from one end to the other. There are around 50k books there and you can also use the internet section of library anytime to search for information or complete projects.
Hostel Facilities
Though I am not a hostelite, I can tell you by the experience of my friends who live in hostel here, that its much better than other colleges. The hostels are in the college campus itself unlike a few colleges which have hostels around 1.5km away from college. Also the food from mess is not THAT bad. The food from canteen is very good and also costs much less than that in cities. The hostel facility is quite good. All the hostelites help each other and also the staff is quite supportive.
Alumni/Alumna
The senior students here are very helpful. Unlike the assumed notions of senior students being mean to fresher's, I never heard of or saw anything like that. You can ask any senior about your doubts (academic or non-academic) and they are glad to help you. Some may even pay for your share of auto rickshaw. With programs like bookswaps, you can easily get the books of seniors for almost at half rate. The student communities arrange various lectures, seminars of alumni and workshops can be a great way to know them well.
Exam Structure
Now exams are conducted by MU. So, basically how you fare in exams is very relative. In this college, you can certainly score much higher than the students of other colleges under MU. This is because of the creamy layer of students here and the good teaching faculty. As this college is a bit strict in terms of attendance and submissions, you can be certain that you are studying for exams indirectly and the panic is very less. No wonder, this college produces some of the best results in exams.
Admission
During the admission, there were around 4 decided rounds. I was allotted this institute in the first round itself. Though I tried for all the rounds, the college and course remained same. Also, a 5th round was declared by DTE to fill the vacant seats. So if you don't get admission in the college of your choice, don't lose hope. Try till the very end because your luck might just turn around.
Faculty
The faculty here is amazing. Not only for my branch, but also the teachers here are very helpful with an exception of 1 or 2. But everyone is highly educated and knows how to deal with students and maintain their interests till the end of semester. Though after a certain point of time, students realize that no matter how good the faculty is, the results depend on what WE do during those 3-4 months. After all, selfstudy is the best study.
