Remarks

Good exposure as well as more diversity than other IITs, NIRF Rank 1, good location in a large metro city unlike Kanpur, Kharagpur, etc. Provides IITD and IITB level exposure in IITK level ranks. Suited rank as IITD and IITB entrance ranks are astronomically high. Good balance between research and career unlike other IITs thata re more career focused.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

I was always passionate about aerospace and so I chose this course, and have no regrets so far. The aero curriculum is extremely well curated where we can go into airplanes, helicopters, drones, missiles and spacecraft. A lot if not most of the faculty have advanced international degrees from Stanford Caltech, etc. The curriculum is very relevant and flexible. I can take courses from any department I like. I have the option to take up an extra MTech in data science or management or some other more career focused stream on purely CGPA criteria. There is also a strong focus on entrepreneurship and extra curriculars.

Placement Experience

5

The placements at IITM are excellent overall. In the last year, the average salary stood at 18 LPA and the median at 15.5 LPA. The circuit branches (CSE, EE and EP) do have a large advantage over the others in core offers but non core offers are same for everyone. You can reasonably expect to take >12 LPA home in non core offers after your degree if it's not CSE or elec, and they go as high as 35-40lpa. However, don't make the mistake of expecting 50LPA+ offers for non CSE/Electrical.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee is very high, almost unaffordable if you're from the general or OBC category. You might have to take up an educational loan. But it is much cheaper than private colleges of the same calibre. I won't recommend you to let go of the opportunity to come here purely on financial constraints. There are good low-interest loans available but most of the scholarships are targeted towards non-general and female students. The whole degree will cost you upwards of 10 lakhs. There are virtually no financial constraints for those with SC, ST, or EWS category.

Campus Life

5

The extra curriculars here are probably better than any college in India, other IITs included. All the fests are completely student run. The cultural fest is called Saarang and the tech fest is Shaastra. Both of them are remarkable events. There is also an entrepreneurship summit. The library is one of the best in India and even the institute email id will give you access to most content world over. Plus there are very accomplished tech teams, be it Formula One racing, Hyperloop, Rovers and many more. The Centre For Innovation is the place to be for every tech fan where we have very active tech clubs. The budget that IITM's extra curriculars get is probably greater than the entire budgets of most Indian colleges. The campus is massive, green and beautiful and filled with opportunities.

The curriculum is quite good. Personally for me the curriculum was upto standard and included many modern ideas. Some parts of it though are still from the old times were there's no improvement in core subjects. You ll have plenty of time in between exams for internals so as long as you don't procrastinate you ll be good

Course Curriculum Overview:

Political science syllabus in our college is pretty upgraded. The way it's structured is also pretty good. For a student of Political Science, they first gives us an introduction of the discipline theoretically explaining the subject before moving to it's real life examples. Out syllabus covers almost everything that is required for a Political Science graduate. Faculties make it even more effective using assignments and their lectures. We also have inter-disciplinary courses.
