Dislikes
- I do not like the teaching methodology of some of my faculties, even though they are highly knowledgeable.

- Sometimes, the exams will be on back to back days with less time to study
Course Curriculum Overview
I took electrical engineering because I believe electronics has a huge scope in the future. Also many subjects in my course and crafted according to the industry standards and help me learn about the industry well. I suggest that the teaching methodology should be to provide an intuitive and visual sense of what is actually being taught The exams are conducted once every 1 to 1.5 months. The semester is usually for 4 months and there is 2 month holiday between the semesters during which the cultural and technical fest take place.
Internships Opportunities
I am in first yr, so I don't know much about internships. There are internship opportunities available for the first year students to work with startups. Also, the internship season is after the 6th semester. Most students work as interns and a few also apply for research internships.
Placement Experience
The placement opportunities are plenty at IITM. Since I am in my first year, I don't know much about placements but I have heard that top companies around the world come for placements. The highest package this year was 4.3 crore per annum. The average salary in Electrical engineering is 22 LPA. I plan to join a company and work for a few years and then decide what to do. I am not yet clear about my future plans.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees is 3.2 lakhs. This includes a tuition fee of 2 lakhs, hostel fees of 40000, mess fees of 34000 and other labs and miscellaneous fees. The fees varies based on economic conditions and community category. The fees for SC/ST students is also very less. For students whose family income is less than 4.5 lakhs, there is a scholarship which reduces fees by 67 %.
Campus Life
There are around 15 technical clubs here. There is a separate unit called E-Cell which promotes entrepreneurship culture in the institute and connects the students with startups. There are world class sports facilities here and an annual Inter IIT meet for sports and technology. The classrooms can accommodate more than 100 students. The library has 5 floors and has almost every educational book and journal.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels have badminton courts, gym and TV room. Every hostel has a vending machine. The mess food is of good quality and taste, except for some days. There are separate messes for Veg and Non Veg, South and North Indian menus. The registration process is simple and can be done online.
Admission
IITM is the NIRF number one ranked college in India, so I am really happy that I got into one of the best engineering colleges in India. To join any IIT, we need to clear both JEE mains and Advanced. The rank determines your college and course.
Faculty
The faculties are very kind and always motivating. They are also closely affiliated with the industry, so they provide valuable insights about the outside world and the opportunities. There is also an opportunity to take part in the research conducted by the professors. I don't want to pinpoint any faculty member. The exams are dependent on the subject and the professor. The general exam pattern is Quiz 1, Quiz 2 and EndSem with weightage of 20,20 and 60 percent respectively. The number of courses per semester ranges from 4 to 6 and the number of lab courses ranges from 1 to 2. Generally, all students pass the exams and very few students score bad grades.
Night Life
The first year hostel has in built badminton courts, gym and TV room. There are two food courts and two food trucks in the campus. There is Cafe Coffee Day as well. Hostellers can come and leave the hostel anytime they want, even at 3 am in the morning. There is generally less restrictions in the hostels. The locality is completely safe at nights. The only problems is in some hostels, the monkeys can easily enter the corridor and cause trouble.
