NIEPMD also known as National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities Chennai, was established in 2005. It is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University for certain courses, and Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University for others and approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The college is accredited by the NAAC with a B Grade.

NIEPMD offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Diploma programs, which lead to one primary degree: Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, BASLP. For admission to the BASLP program candidates must have passed 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry and any one of Biology / Mathematics / Computer Science / Statistics / Electronics / Psychology with an aggregate of 50% marks and need to appear for CET (Tamil Nadu Central Entrance Test). The total fee for the BASLP program is between INR 1.43 to 1.62 Lakhs.

NIEPMD placement report for 2025 has not been officially released. However, according to student reviews, the average stipend offered during internships was approximately INR 24,000 per month. NIEPMD Admission 2025

NIEPMD offers admission to several programs, such as BASLP, B.P.T, M.Phil. (Clinical Psychology), BOT, Post Graduate Diploma in Early Intervention, Bachelor of Education [B.Ed] (Special Education) (Multiple Disabilities), Diploma, Master of Education [M.Ed] (Special Education) (Multiple Disabilities), BPO, Certificate Course in Caretaker Technician.

BASLP is the most popular program at NIEPMD. For admission 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry and any one of Biology / Mathematics / Computer Science / Statistics / Electronics / Psychology with an aggregate of 50% marks and need to appear for CET (Tamil Nadu Central Entrance Test). Generally CET application form commenced in May to June, with the application fee of INR 1,300. The CET exam date is June 22, 2025 (Tentative). The total fee for the BASLP program is between INR 1.43 to 1.62 Lakhs.

Ans. Yes, NIEPMD provides a waiver on institutional fees for needy students, such as:

100% for persons with disabilities having a UDID card or a disability certificate, irrespective of the percentage of disability.
75% for siblings of children with 40% or higher disability in the family.
100% for parents of children with disabilities who possess a UDID card.
100% for children of parents with a benchmark disability of 40% or higher.

Ques. Does NIEPMD offer hostel facilities for its students?

Ans. Yes, NIEPMD provides separate hostels for boys and girls with sufficient capacity. Hostels offer a disciplined atmosphere, vegetarian/non-vegetarian mess, and other facilities. NIEPMD hostel fee ranges from INR 18,000.

What does student says about course

- i want to become a doctor and this field feels very much interesting to me - yeah there will be so much clients load will have a great exposure for different disabilities and well planned treatments also - detailed review about patients by clinical staff has to be there and teaching with interest - every year annual exam and it's difficult

Internship opportunity provided by the college and stipend

- We have to do 6 month internship - we will get stipend of 12k per month just for 3 months which we will work in niepmd - other three month we have to go to nearby hospitals there will not get paid - we have to do a research project on our own and then after finishing we can publish our research in so many journals

Yearly fees structure and scholarship

Fees structure every year 33000 , for first year they will take 33000 + 11000 caution fees , 1000 rupees for registration form for exam , and other all fees like academic and cultural, lab outside visit everything included in same 33 thousand , examination fees you have to pay separately every year before exam - scholarships are there for SC ST and tamilnadu state students and for northeast student and J&k students. - for north east reserved seats will be there and fees also free for them due to minority. - for sc st also seat reservation will be there

- So many conferences will be there and workshops also for students - cultural like march -holi august - onam January- pongal will be there - each and every book will be available in niepmd library related to your course - yeah everything is there projector , cpu processor, mics , Ac - yeah every year 3 days sports campaigns are there and too many cultural also - no student run any groups

Student views on the faculty and exams

-Faculty students ratio is like to be 1: 20 - mr. kurunji chelvan sir principal of bachelor of occupational therapy was having a good experience and very well maintained relationship with students - priya mam too strict for the students - every year one annual exam will be there not semester, then exam will be difficult, two type of exam one is theory and another one is practical, Every year may be one or two student will fail

Admission process of the college

-I got confirmed admission in niepmd only and i choosed this college because this is asia only college which is working for multiple disabilities in college more than 25 courses are running - No , i preffered to be in this same college only - we have to prepare for CET exam in that 5 colleges will be there we have to choose among them and if seat will be available or alloted to us then we have to go to the respective colleges submit our documents and we have to fill admissions form then they will give us a joining date then we have to join college - eligibility is 12th pass with science and math Only exam for admission is CET but in next two year this course will come under NEET

As it is multiple disability institute. So you get every intervention in a same roof.People can avail services like Physiotherapy, Occupation therapy, Speech Therapy, Psychology, Special school for specially abled. So no need to wander her and there.
As it is national institute , u can interact with other states people too, you can learn new languages , culture and traditions

For getting in this college we have to give CET held by nild at that time. There were only three colleges offering the courses (Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics) that time NILD in Kolkata, SVNIRTAR in Cuttack, NIEPMD in Chennai. Now there are five institute offering courses. My common rank was 366 in General Category at that time. I was called for counselling. Counselling letter was recieved by me by speed post. My counselling day was on third day, I was interested in SVNIRTAR as it is the oldest and famous insititute. My first preference was Bachelor of Physiotherapy in SVNIRTAR. But my hopes got broken when i saw that all seat have been filled for the general category in both NILD , SVNIRTAR and 2 seats were remaining in NIEPMD. I had not imagined that.Even i left hope that I will get the admission. But Miracle or something else I got the seat and as it is national institute everyone was happy > Comparing NIEPMD, other institutes were not that good. NILD infrastructure is very old just like a govt hospital and too situtated inside a road, Plus hostel were not provided immediately. >SVNIRTAR was very far from the main city and same govt. hospital feels >We have to be 12th pass with 50% aggregate in (Physics, Chemistry and Biology )Subject > Date of birth should be more than 17 and less than 27 at that time >Mostly students prefer BPT rather BOT

Everything you need to know - NIEPMD

Likes

60/40 % is the ratio of girls to boys and there are around 25 students per batch. Campus life is good not great but I like the environment of the college. Social interactions are way better than many other colleges.

Dislikes

Students are used as labor for various college works which they have received funds for.
Very less cultural and sports events. It is way too much into academics.
The college funds are not properly utilised and the practices like proper documentation for every small thing is rather petty and unnecessary.

Admission:

I didn't choose for this. I landed this by pure luck and coincidence and I'm glad I did. But if you want to compare with other colleges then I would say even if it is lacking in other unimportant things and aspects it is solid for academics and things which matter more. (Money after placement) There are 2 forms of admission process you can get in either by counselling after writing the exam CET (common entrance test) or by other means like by being a person hailing from Tamil Nadu. There is special reservation for TN people and counselling separately for them as well.

Usually I joined niepmd through referral of my relative and occupational therapist helps person with physical, sensory and cognitive deficits
Computer lab for students projects , assignment and research, Anti ragging committee always stands with students and supervision on all students behaviour.

Admission:

Usually I took niepmd Ot from referral and also it is near to my home and also followed my passion 1. Bot is the first preference of mine,if not I would take any other courses in the same college itself. 2. Students can join niepmd through Common entrance test (CET) through official website of niepmd And also students from Tn can join through State councelling based on cut off mark of their HSC 2nd yr .

Admission:

Admission process In every year Common Entrance Test (CET)has been conducted, In the month of April or May (Registration form is out one month prior to entrance exam)..This CET exam is conducted for admission in 4 colleges ( NILD Kolkata...SVNIRTAR Cuttuk...PDUNIPPD Delhi and my college NIEPMD, Chennai..). Seat is allotted on the basis of rank secured in CET exam... In my college NIEPMD having total 28 seats of BPT .10 seat of BPT reserved for State quota (Tamilnadu Students who has been passed 12th exam in tamilnadu)..rest of 18 seats are for all over the India ...

Admission will be based on common entrance test conducted in the college itself. And the applicant must register prior to the end date and the form has to be posted to the institution before due date. The application form fee is 500 when I was applying. The process of admission goes in order of entrance exam then 1st counselling for selected candidates and 2 nd counselling for other set of candidates. They score candidates by categories(obc, st/sc). The entrance text contain physics,chemistry, general quiz, english, maths/biology. More information regarding application and processing can be found in the course portal in niepmd web address. The campus offers more exposure in multi disability services than specific disorder. We get more knowledge than our particular course info.

Admissions are open through the Common Entrance Test (CET-2025), followed by counseling, with a total annual intake of 28 seats. NIEPMD does not accept UGC NET scores for admission to its doctorate level courses. The university conducts its own entrance examination for admission. The entrance examination consists of 100 MCQ questions.

There is no seventh round counselling conducted for admission to NIEPMD BASLP course. There are a total of 6 rounds of counselling conducted for admission to BASLP.

Candidates must have passed 10+2 from a board recognized by the Government of India to be eligible to apply for UG courses at NIEPMD. To get admission in B.Ed Special Education at NIEPMD Chennai, you need to have passed in 10+2 with 3-year diploma format. However, distance education for the same is not available.
