Course Curriculum Overview

5

Chemical Engineering is an interdisciplinary course with its impact on various other courses and its interdependency too. Through this, we can gain insights about the solutions faced by us in the real world. The Course Curriculum could be more effective towards Chemical Engineering with some more Chemical Courses in our 2nd Semester. The frequency and timing of exams are very sufficient for an engineering student according to me.

Internships Opportunities

5

Many companies came for Internships. Highest package in Chemical Engineering was given in ITC witha package of 4.5 lakhs. Different types of job roles are applied in our college. One should do professor projects under faculties to get good understanding of core concepts and they build a stroong resume. Students prepare through mock interview questions and Group Discussions for placements.

Placement Experience

5

From the end of their 3rd year, students become eligible for placements. Many companies visited our campus and the total number of offers were around 400. Some notable companies are Google, Microsoft, Adobe and Amazon. Anout 60% of the students get placed. After getting the degree, I may go to some company or may do some research in Chemical Engineering.

Fees and Financial Aid

In IIT Madras, I am paying a year-wise fees of 3 lakhs per year. I am not from any category and the overall fee structure for general candidates is the same as above. My batchmates who are of other categories pay an annual fee of 1 lakh per year including hostel and mess fees. Many loans and financial aids are available for students who are of category. Some mentionable loans are SBI Loan, ICICI Loan etc.

Campus Life

5

Shaastra, the technical fest and Saarang, the Cultural fest of IIt Madras are usually held in the month of January. Our central library is filled with books and journals. Most of the classrooms are air-conditioned with projector and blackboard available. All types of sports and extracurricular activities are present in our campus, from which people are selected in Inter IIT.

Hostel Facilities

4

In room ,we get one normal sized bed, one wadrobe, one balcony andother common connections and equipments. The room i sdouble sharing. Meal is served 4 times a day and the mess food is okayish. Students may live in hostel or be a day scholar.

Admission

I applied to some other colleges but I got selected in all the colleges I applied to. One has to crack the prestigious JEE Advanced Examination to get into IIT Madras. Any 12th pass candidate is elgible to sit for JEE Advanced. Overall admission experience was very smooth.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio is approximately 1:20. Their relationship is very good and the faculties are very helpful and friendly. My favourite faculty is a professor from Chemical Engineering Department, T.Renganathan. I did not like our Chemistry Ma'am Arti Dua, because she used to copy notes from her copy to the blackboard and we did not learn anything. There are 3 exams- Quiz 1, Quiz 2 and End Semesters. The exams are moderately difficult. The course curriculum is approximately 80% relevant.

Night Life

5

Multi Fitness Gym is there, which closes at 11 pm everyday. Cafeterias are open all night long. Library closes at 11pm. But there are othr reading places which are very good. Hostel and campus are not bound by any timings and one can eneter whenever required. Locality is very safe to roam around at night. CCD and Zaitoon are some of the favourite night hangout places.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The specific aspect which is great future on IT Field of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose the course. The curriculum prepared me to solve tough real-world logical aptitude test and coding test. The course curriculum is only based on the theory in several areas. My suggestion is to improve that too in practical manner for better real-world understanding. The frequency and the timing of my exams along with my perspective on the difficulty level is 2hrs.
