Remarks
I applied for B.A English program at Cotton University, Handique College, and B.Baruah College of Assam. Back in 2016 when TUEE results were out, I secured 10 positions in the Unreserved category of the merit list of the Integrated M.A English program. As TU is a reputed and highly recognized central university of India, the Integrated M.A English program has an advanced course structure from the rest of the colleges of Assam. That is why I opted for TU. I didn't avail any quota for the admission process because I belong to the UR. For Integrated M.A in English, the student should qualify the entrance test i.e TUEE for Integrated M.A in English Program conducted by Tezpur University. The student should secure a minimum of 60% in the 10+2 course. Students of Assam board who get a position in Higher Secondary exam, get direct entry to this program. On the admission day, students are required to take all the documents(mark sheet, pass certificate of HS & HSLC, passport photo) for verification purposes.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is advanced concerning various interdisciplinary subjects along with English Literature. There are 12 well- educated professors in the department of English. There are total 30 seats for this program including both reserved and unreserved category. The faculties of the department are highly knowledgeable to impart quality education to the students as they took their honorable M.A, M.Phil & PhD degrees from well-known universities in India. Most of the professors like to continue with the traditional teaching method as the course is academic-centric. But few of them are tech-savvy and they introduce new methods of teaching by using technology. They provide enough materials and references to study. Four exams were conducted in a semester with total marks of 150. The 1st exam is of 25 marks, Midterm is of 40 marks, 3rd test is of 25 marks(assignment & presentation), end term is of 60 marks. All the tests are easy to pass with the thorough study.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is good and affordable. The fee of Merit-listed Students is quite low than specially reserved seats. For students who take admission based on the merit list, the admission fee for every semester is approx 11500 including hostel fees. For students who take admission under the SSS quota, the fees are comparatively high. Financially challenged students can also apply for various scholarships like Ishanuday and other scholarships for reserved categories provided by UGC.
Campus Life
Annual fest is organized in the month of February and Tech fest also known as Techxetra was organized in the month of November earlier. A large collection of books including English novels, history books, poetry etc. is present in the Central Library of TU. Classrooms are near and clean with proper necessities. They provide a good environment to study. A large open playground is present on the TU campus to carry out various outdoor sports activities. Volleyball & Basketball courts are there. For indoor games, Activity Centre is there. The Badminton court is in the Activity Centre with a well-equipped Gym. The yoga center is there to keep oneself fit and healthy. There are many social groups and clubs run by students. Tezpur University Students Council is present to work for the welfare of students on the campus. Various clubs like hobby club, art club, music club, dance club, drama club, animal welfare club, etc. are there to make the students culturally and socially active on the campus.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel Rooms have proper facilities of lights, fan, beds, study table & chair with individual wardrobes. The quality of the food served in the hostel mess is good and superior as compared to other state government college and university hostels. Non-veg food is provided every day in a week except Thursday. Food is served 3 times a day. The breakfast is well served with rice, roti & chana dal, puri sabji etc. The menu for lunch has rice, dal, veggies, chutney, etc. Dinner is served with rice/roti, dal, fish/chicken/paneer, papad, dessert etc. On the admission day, hostels are provided to the students based on the vacancies. After paying the hostel admission fee, students are required to pay 1400-1500 monthly as the mess dues. Hostel admission fee and the mess dues is affordable. I was a boarder of New Women's Hostel, Tezpur University.
