Remarks
The admission process was to pay online a sum of money to register yourself with the college. After that, a cut off list is announced to which merit lists are uploaded. A minimum of 85% is required for the best of 4 subjects. On the day of admission, original documents need to be verified. This was Hassel free process with proper queues. There is also a quota for some students like Sports Quota, Extracurricular Quota of Dance, Singing and other similar activities, NCC Quota and few others. Scholarships are provided to aid the finances of the students. 100% scholarships, 50% scholarships and 25% scholarships are provided with correct information and documents of income and lower class society.
Course Curriculum Overview
B.Com course is quite famous in Gauhati Commerce College. The teachers are very friendly and welcoming to all the students. They use modern technology as well as the use of the old method of Blackboards and Whiteboards. Sometimes, presentations are also shown on whatever topic we are studying. The number of students is quite more. The ratio is 1:200 (approx students). Sometimes, even other sections are also added together by the same teacher to teach the same subject. The teachers are highly educated with mostly having PHDs or M.Phil Degrees. Exams are conducted twice per semester with a final one. The exams are of 70 marks out of which the students have to get 23 marks, which is quite easy. On the question paper, questions are asked both in English and Assamese to make it easier for the students.
Placement Experience
There are no campus placements for B.Com students. After B.Com, the majority of the students go for M.Com, MBA or Law Degree as major courses or for CA or CS. Many students try to reserve their seats in their own college for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees paid for this course is quite viable for all the students which are 7,000 Rs per year. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the college did not charge us any admission fees. There is no hike for the fees but sometimes due to extra activities, some extra amount of money is added. There are various Scholarships you receive from the college itself on the grounds of Sports, Dance, NCC and few others. But, you don't get any on-campus internships or jobs.
Campus Life
There are numerous fests held in a year from the B.Com department, BBA department, MBA department and M.comm department. Most of the fests are conducted in the months from February to April. Various contests are held in which other colleges can also participate. There is a total of 2 libraries on the campus with computer facilities. Books, journals, magazines, encyclopedias and much are being provided to the students. A librarian is always there to help out. In classrooms, ACs are being provided with large windows and doors. There are also amenities of attached washrooms. Every year, sports events are being held in which various games are conducted. All of the students can participate. On the contrary, there is not many social groups or clubs. But there are student political parties that run for the betterment of students.
