Remarks
the admission process was through JOSAA, the platform to apply to any NIT or IIT after the JEE Mains. Since I had a good rank (4632), getting the stream Electrical and Electronics engineering was easily available for me. For applying to a college outside of the Home state quota, we need to make sure that we have the required rank. For the home-state quota, the spectrum is broad and not so difficult to apply for.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose electrical and electronics, after developing an interest in class 11. The curriculum is expanded over 8 semesters with timely exams- midterm and end sem exams in each semester. There were 70 students in my class. Even though it was a difficult class strength to manage for the faculties, there were Adhocs and TA ( Teacher Assistants) who would help us with our doubts regarding the subject or college in general. The faculties (Professors and Assistant Professors) are highly qualified. They have completed their Post Graduate and Doctorate from prestigious institutions and are thus well versed in their subjects. The faculties also keep participating in conferences and publish research papers to widen their spectrum of knowledge. The exams were moderately difficult but with steadfast preparation and practice of previous year question papers, it could be aced.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Goldman Sachs, Bosch, Ford, Qualcomm, SAP Labs, etc offer internships to the 5th-semester students If the interns perform really well, then they are awarded a pre-placement offer also.
Placement Experience
NITC has a good placement rate. Companies like Cisco, Qualcomm, Bosch, L&T, Texas Instruments, etc come every year. Students from the 5th semester can apply for internships whereas the placement activities are started in the eighth semester. An orientation is held for the final year students by the Training and Placement cell to familiarise them with the process, apt soft skills, and technical ones required for securing a placement. The profiles offered to vary from Graduate Engineer Trainee, Associate Engineer, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Being a government college, NITC is fairly cheaper compared to the other private universities. The fees are further classified based on the income of the parents. Those earning above 5 lac - 62,500 per semester 1-5 lac- 33% of the total fee less than 1- no tuition fee I didn't opt for any scholarships or educational loans. But if anyone wants to apply for an educational loan, it should be taken from SBI.
Campus Life
The campus life is very vibrant and one an witness activities on campus like open mic, dance-off, quiz and other competitions conducted by the differents clubs namely- Literary and Debating club, Indian Society of Technical Education, Dance and Dramatics, Indian Cultural Association, Adventure Club, etc. It provide a platform to give the first years' insight into their college and help them get along with their peers and seniors. The main fests of the college are- Tathva (technical) and Ragam which witness a huge turnout from different colleges all over India (mainly South). Both of them are loaded with different events including pro shows by famous artists like Vishal Shekhar, Sanam,Sonu Nigam etc.oThe sport teams are very active and participate in inter NIT competitions , win accolades, and have made us proud. Coming to the academic front, the library has a plethora of books and journals for reference.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel accommodation is good with a photocopy, cooperative shop within its premises which caters to all the needs. There are 4 mess facilities namely- North mess (2), Veg Mess, and South Mess. The hostel food is homely and if we are bored of it, there a mini canteen which serves fancy food. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby so Swiggy is always available. The hostel is neat and the hostel staff is friendly though they are very strict regarding the curfew timings for girls. (First year- 7pm and the rest - 9pm).
