Remarks

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College comes under Delhi University. it is an off campus college. Being a part of DU was my second preference, the first was the course. I wanted BSc in Mathematics(H). I cleared the 7th cutoff which was 85% for the General category. I was quite happy that I can get into Du. When I searched about the college I found out that the campus was a bit small compared to other colleges. I searched about college on Instagram and found profiles of few seniors who were in the same course. I talked to them regarding the same and they told me about faculty members and also told me that college campus does not matter. That is true for sure. The campus does not matter. BSc Mathematics (H) was introduced few years back in SGNDKC. Now while studying I feel really proud. Teachers are very helpful in this online era too. They themselves went to college to provide readings from library. Students are good too. I feel very happy being the part of SGNDK family.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

BSc Mathematics(H) might seem tough just listening to the name. But core structure is defined in such a way that it does not put pressure on students. In the first semester, students have 2 core subjects, 1 Generic Elective, 1Aecc Core subjects - Algebra, Calculus Generic Elective - It is totally based on the choice of the student. They can choose any subjects from the choice given by the college. AECC - There is a choice between English and environmental studies. But most probably in the first sem, anyone is taken by college and another in the second semester. In the second 2 core subject change to Differential Equation and Real analysis. Teachers are highly qualified and most of them have done their PhD's. They are very helpful. Some of the teachers are not only teachers but they are kind of stress busters too. They have fun while teaching and we students enjoy while studying.

Internships Opportunities

5

Both off campus and on campus internship opportunities are provided. Profiles like Content Creator, social media interns, content strategists intern, Management trainee, and many more are given from which student can get stipend around 2k - 15k per month. Various fruitful opportunities are also given.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is moderate. The total amount is 60k. Various internships are also offered. The college has many clubs. One of them is the "Placement Cell" which brings in various internships for students from which they can earn a stipend.

Campus Life

4.5

Due to the pandemic, I haven't started my college life yet. We only attend online lectures on the name of the college this year. But But But This doesn't mean that our college life is ruined. No, not at all. There are various societies like Impasto(art society), Placement Cell, EnviSAGE (Environmental Society), Nepathya (Dramatic society) and many more. Online interviews and competitions were conducted by some societies. Before Corona, College conducted fests in the Even semester that is around September-October. College also has NSS and NCC and also have a sports society. Besides societies talking about academic, the college has a library from where we can issue books according to our requirements. A huge variety of books are available.

Other Applied Colleges

Amity University | Bsc. Mathematics Honours

Amity is a private University, so I preferred DU over it and also it costs around 60000 per sem which was equal to fees of whole course at DU.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is too good. As my course is life sciences so instead of learning about only one core subject like in botany hons and zoology hons course, we get chance to learn about zoology, botany and chemistry simultaneously. That Also unlock a large no. of opportunities for my future. Acc to me the ratio of practical lab and theory classes should be increased like we only get 1 lab for one core subjects in a week so I think this no. Should be increased so that we can get more practical knowledge. The difficulty level of exams are too much High like it seems we're hons course students that should be decreased.

Placement Experience:

Placements in IGNOU are quite limited compared to regular universities. Since IGNOU is an open and distance learning university, it does not have a strong campus placement system like DU or private colleges. There is a Campus Placement Cell (CPC) that conducts job fairs and recruitment drives at some regional centers, but these are not very frequent and mostly depend on the location. Usually, students who are in their final year or have completed the course can apply, but there is no fixed semester rule since the system is flexible. The companies that visit are not very large in number and vary every year. Some private firms, NGOs, BPOs, insurance companies, and small IT firms have participated in the past. The roles are generally entry-level such as sales, customer support, data entry, insurance advisor, or junior IT support. There are very limited opportunities for core mathematics or research roles through placements. As far as packages are concerned, the average package is usually around ?2.5 LPA to ?4 LPA, but since IGNOU is an open university, it cannot be expected to have the same placement levels as regular colleges with full-time classes. Also, the percentage of students placed is very small because most IGNOU students are either working professionals, homemakers, or people preparing for competitive exams, so placements are not the main focus. Many students use the degree as a qualification while pursuing their own career path outside. I am currently in my 2nd year, so I do not have personal placement experience yet. The data I have mentioned here is based on internet sources and feedback from other IGNOU students. From what I have learned, placements exist but are very limited, and one should not rely only on them for career building.

Campus placements are for commerce background mostly, usually in 3rd year you might see some placements. I don't know exactly about thr company who visited because I wasn't enrolled in that particular course. Campus placements percentage is very low to be honest . 10-20% mostly. I'll pursue masters.
