Remarks
Admission is through WBJEE rank (<3000) which happens during May-July. Since Jadavpur University is a Tier 1 college, the placements are top-notch. 85 to 90 percentage of the students are placed here in different sectors like IT & software, consulting, finance, core, R&D, the highest package being 65 LPA. Many students get internship offers and PPOs. Infrastructure is decent considering such low fees (Rs 12000 total for 4 years). Hostel and mess facilities are good too (charges are Rs 300/month approx). There is a huge Central Library, Blue Earth Workshop, OAT, free high-speed WiFi, good classroom halls and labs. Sports facilities are fascinating for every sports lover. The extremely qualified faculties are quite helpful. The campuses are beautiful, green and very well connected. Many clubs are there attracting interested students. Research culture and alumni network are great. Various scholarships are given. I preferred it for its low fees and high national and international ranking.
Course Curriculum Overview
I got Chemical Engg from my WBJEE rank. It is the first of its kind in Asia and 100 years old. It is the best department of JU according to QS ranking because of its research quality. It has a huge alumni base. The average package is 6.2 LPA and the highest was 16.8lpa this year. PSUs also recruit from our department. Internship opportunities are ample. The faculty-student ratio is around 10:1 in our dept. The faculties are extremely qualified, quite helpful and thought-provoking. Most of them are PhD degree holders from old IITs, foreign universities and JU itself. The course curriculum is relevant and new age topics are introduced, to remain at par with current tech. Though the curriculum of JU is not very strict, focused students reach great heights in academics and career. The GATE results bear testimony to this every year. 5 were in the top 100 this year from our dept. Midterm (30 marks) and End semester exams(70 marks) are conducted every semester. A serious student can easily pass them.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are ample and many students also get PPOs in companies like ITC, RIL, PepsiCo, Honeywell, IBM, Britannia Industries, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., Snapdeal, TCS, CISCO and so on.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible for placements around the 6th or 7th semester. The T&P cell run by students works dedicatedly for placements. The overall placement percentage is 85 to 90 percent since many students opt for higher studies. The overall highest package was 65 lakhs this year and the median salary was above 8 lakhs. Major companies include Airbus, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, Adobe, Google, Coca-Cola, Mercedes-Benz and much more. After getting my degree, I aim for MS/MBA studies preferably in foreign universities through GRE.
Fees and Financial Aid
When it comes to the course fees, JU has one of the best ROI. The whole Engg. the degree can be completed within Rs12000 except IT (Rs120000). The hostel and mess charges are also very cheap are around Rs300 per month. In spite of such low fees, JU provides its students with financial assistance. There are ample scholarships for meritorious students based on income(<250000). There are also lots of internal stipends. In 2020, for the Chem Engg. dept., the major recruiting companies were ABinbev, RIL, Tata Chemicals, Honeywell, ZS Associates, and also PSUs. Many students got internships and PPOs in companies like RIL, Honeywell, ITC, PepsiCo, etc. A good CGPA benefits the candidates.
Campus Life
Srijan (Techfest) is held in Feb and Sanskriti (Culturalfest) is held in March. There is a huge Central library with over 6 lakh volumes and also there are departmental libraries. Classrooms are well equipped with all facilities. Sports facilities are truly fascinating for every sports lover. We have one international standard cricket field, basketball, volleyball, tennis courts, gyms and much more. We have an Open Air Theatre and a huge Blue Earth Workshop. We also have a rock climbing hill. Clubs like JU ECell, science club, drama club, debating club, drama club, motorsports club (SAE affiliated), music club, photography club are there to fascinate, attract and develop interested candidates.
Interview Experience
Admission is through WBJEE rank (<3000) and WBJEE counselling which is generally held during May-July every year. 90 percent of seats are reserved for WB candidates. A decentralised counselling round is conducted to fill up the empty seats at last. There is also a sports quota for admission. Questions asked in the WBJEE are from the PCM 11-12 syllabus.
