Entrance Preview

Tezpur University Entrance Test. I opted this institution since i wanted to study near my home and in a Central government institution.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

Course curriculum is not up to the mark in terms of Mass Communication and Journalism. The positive part is that according to the demands of our course we had all the equipments, but very few or almost no experienced faculties to teach them.

Internships Opportunities

A big no, there is no internship facilities in our department, there are only a few teachers with good contacts but with not very good organisations. So usually students skip asking the teachers about the internship and only use their help when there are no options left.

Placement Experience

1.5

This is the worst part in our department that their is no placement opportunities. The last placement was a very long time back that was in 2008 I guess or earlier, that too in local news channels which used to pay very less. The Assamese media industry is anyways known for underpaying regardless of your education.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes there were good scholarship facilities for students especially for single girl child, SC/ST and the OBC. Though havent availed any scholarship but many students benefitted from it. As well as the system for applying the scholarship was hassle free and the amount was also good. Though the OBC scholarship did not provide a good amount.

Campus Life

5

The gender ratio in Tezpur University is almost 60:40 you can say, 60 in terms of girls there are more girls than boys in our university. While the extra curricular activities are good and something or the other usually takes place related to sports and culture.

Exam Structure

The exams were hectic as well as less frequent, depending on the semesters and the specialisation you have chosen during your course. Since my specialisation was Films and TV so we were mostly required to submit our works like documentary, videos or AV news report. So for us it was hectic especially in editing room.

Faculty

2.5

Only few faculties were fully aware of their subject and had a hold in them. But most of the faculties were good theoretically but no technical knowledge and some had the technical know how but no theoretical knowledge. Though they were friendly and treated the students well, but that cannot be the whole criteria to rate them, since we are judging them in terms of qualification and interests.

Placement Experience:

There is campus placement for different departments like MCJ, MBA, B.Tech, etc. However, there isn't 100% placement. The students at times themselves find jobs, but the Campus placement is not inclusive of all. There's a placement cell and it organizes timely workshops etc. However, the kind of placements that should have been generated does not gets generated. In the MCJ department, ETV Bharat, Teach for India, Adfactors PR, etc are some of the good placements that come. So, I'll say overall 70 % get placement, but not all of them are campus placement. In my department, I along with 2 others got placed at Adfactors PR and Will get a CTC of 4.56 lakhs after joining. The other companies give around 2, 50,000 as a starting package in MCJ. In MBA, it is higher and touches near to 4,00,000.
