You need to appear for GATE exam or JAM exam for doing Masters in IIT Kharagpur. The admission is titled as Joint M. tech and PhD programme, where if you score more than 8. 0 CGPA by 2nd semester, you're eligible to apply for PhD within the college soon. You can join after the process of eligible test followed by interview. You can join in PhD, soon after completing Masters. Stipend of 12, 400/- p. m is assisted by MHRD scholarship for Master students, like almost for 24 months. And it will automatically stop soon after graduation from Masters. PhD scholars receive a monthly stipend of around 35, 000 for 5 years. I preferred IIT Kharagpur because it continuously ranked 1st as Best Architecture and planning department in all over India from previous 2 years. This was ranked by NIRF. The faculties here are extremely professional and helpful. A very friendly and sustainable campus, everyone here owns a rented or a new cycle to feel the campus without air pollution and heavy traffic.
Course Curriculum Overview
Faculty student ratio is 1:40. The faculties here are extremely professional and helpful. All the faculties here have real time project experience, working with other government related projects and hold PhD experience from Indian and foreign universities too. Every semester is about 5 months and we have one Mid semester exam and one final semester exam, carried along with continuous evaluation of assignments, participation in class activities, attendance percentage. The exams are within the context of what is taught. So it's kind of easy, if you really work hard.
Placement Experience
Placements of our college are good. Last year around 4 students of 40 students from our previous batch got placed. Highest was 8 lakhs p. a and the Lowest was 4. 8 lakes pa.
College Events
We have two fests. Tech fest named Kshitij, happens around 3rd week of January every year. Then followed by Annual fest named Spring fest around 4th week of January every year. There is huge college library to help us in academics and also we have college erp accounts to avail the books and journals online too. We have recreational building named Gymkhana where it is the place for not only indoor sports but also a social place for almost all the clubs in the campus. Some of the clubs named Spectra team, Le Obscure photography club, Literary club, Adventure club, Students Alumni cell.
Fee Structure And Facilities

The students will receive 70, 000/- p. m for first 3 years and 80, 000/- p. m for last 2 years along with 2 lakhs per years for financial assistance.
Hostel Facilities
We have hostel facility within the camps. One bed for each person, one study table and chair for each person. All the rooms have attached toilets and also along with common toilets in the hostel blocks. Most of the recreational areas are clubbed together within the hostel blocks for refreshment of students hectic life. The hostel facility is provided soon after you take admission in the campus in person. Hostel officers and wardens will be always there to assist us. Caution deposit is to be paid and if refunded after leaving the course and college.
Admission
No. It depends on the courses. I am from Masters in City planning and we had no interview or written test for the admission. It was purely on the basis of GATE score. Few branches like Electrical Engineering department might have this process for selecting the students for admission.
