IIM Ranchi MBA-HR Review

I applied for the IIMR HRM program based on the reviews from friends and family. One of my seniors had studied in the college and had rated the program highly. The application link was received via email. Overall, the application process was very smooth. You may obtain a shortlist if your percentile is above 90-93% in CAT (General). The process was smooth, and the process was conducted in May online (due to the Covid pandemic). The online experience was smooth, and the professors asked relevant questions. I preferred this college as its HR program is widely recognized for its academic rigour.

The course provides students with a rich experience of modern-day HR practices and traditional IR and labour-management disciplines. The HR Program faculty consists of in-house experts with strong academia and industry exposure, along with regular visits by guest faculties from XLRI and TISS. The course provides students with much-needed exposure to various MBA-HR facets, including HR Development, Employer Branding, Talent Management, HR Analytics, etc.

The MBA-HR program continues to attract some of the significant players from the industry. Thirty-seven firms recruited from the MBA-HR batch for summer placements. These included Flipkart, Samsung R&D, Cognizant, DE Shaw, Maruti, etc. The average package stood at Rs 1 Lakh, with the highest package hovering around 2.87 Lakhs.

42 companies hired from IIM Ranchi last year, with 21 of them being first-time recruiters. The average CTC for HR Batch was around INR 14.55 LPA, with median CTC standing around INR 13.85 LPA. Some of the top companies that visited the campus for HR candidates were - Flipkart, IBM, Maruti Suzuki, Deloitte, etc.

The cost of studying in IIM Ranchi for two years is around INR 15-16 Lakhs. I am not sure if there are any scholarships available for students. The fee may hike once the college moves to a permanent campus in 2021.

Single accommodation rooms are provided to most students, the majority having an attached bathroom/balcony. T make things better; each washroom is connected with a geyser for a hot water supply. The balcony has a view of the lush green Khelgoan. The current hostel is located in Khelgoan, and we are expected to move to the new permanent campus by 2021.

The hostel is located in Khelgoan, and almost every student has a room of their own with an attached bathroom and balcony. The area is posh. The meal is served on the ground floor. Girls are allowed in boy's hostels till 11:59 pm at night. Rooms are well maintained and cleaned regularly every day. We'll be shifting to a permanent campus from 2021.

We did not have any GD/WAT to get admission into the college. There was a personal interview round which lasted for around 30-40 minutes. It was conducted online via Google Meet. The questions were based on my interests, previous job experience, philosophy, mythology, and UG courses. "Why MBA HR" is one of the prominent questions for each student trying to seek admission for the course.
