Remarks
the admission process in 2019 was really good. It's one of the best and prestigious colleges in India and Delhi University, and also has an amazing arts program. The environment is welcoming and education excellent. I didn't use any website or blogs as such for making a choice regarding selection. in semester 1, the students are required to take Environmental science and sem 2 requires us to take English communication as an advanced level course. Both of them last for 6 months and finish by 1st year. By the time we are in sem 3, we are provided with SEC which is a skill enhancement course and one has a variety of subjects to choose from. Also, LSR follows a very strict policy of assignment submission. Attendance is very strictly marked and sometimes even honest reasons don't seem to convince the professors enough. All in all, there will always be even in my personal opinion, very fierce competition from every student.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because I want to pursue civil services in the future and the BA program would help me to get a blended overview of various subjects at a time. further, the faculty-student ratio is not very rigid as it varies from subject to subject, for instance, in history, we have around 30 students in a class and for subjects like environmental science, we have the entire batch together. the teachers are generally the ones who have done their Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and their teaching method is always dynamic. Most of the students generally find it easy to cope up with the college studies as the teachers often cite real-life examples that are quite relatable for everyone. Furthermore, the end-semester exams always take place in the months of December and May and it is not very difficult to pass. One could even study two days before the exam in order to obtain passing marks. Also, the questions are highly similar to past years' question papers.
Internships Opportunities
The Placement cell hosts various Companies like Standard Chartered, Nomura, Citi Bank, JSW, Amnesty International, etc for their coveted summer internship programs. As of March 2018, about 320 companies successfully recruited interns through the Placement Cell of LSR during this year. Nearly 300 internship offers were rolled out with over 150 industry giants like Nestle, Dell, Bloomberg, AIGto name a few. Over 150 paid internships were offered to the students. The highest internship offer stands at INR 1,50,000 for 2 months. The average stipend for paid internships was nearly INR 9,750 per month. Also, one student was awarded a scholarship of INR 1 lakh and an internship opportunity at EY. One gets a variety of tasks such as the positions of business development, marketing, sales, designing, ideation, content creation interns, etc.
Placement Experience
The Placement Cell of Lady Shri Ram College for Women serves as an interface between the students and the recruiters. In addition to bringing a varied list of recruiters to campus, it organizes workshops, seminars, and internship opportunities for the collective student body. One is eligible from the 5th semester to sit for the placements. There are various companies such as McKinsey, E&Y, Bank Of America, BCG, Bloomberg, KPMG, Genpact, etc. to offer full-time positions and over 115 students have received offers till now. The average package offered stands at 7.5 LPA. The highest package in the entire Delhi University of 37.8 Lakhs from Bank of America was bagged by one of the LSR students. The placements also accommodate various students from departments like English, History, Psychology, Journalism, etc. I wish to go for civil services after my undergraduate.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The fees have been hiked yet and instead in the second year it was consequently reduced due to the coronavirus pandemic. I must say that one could afford a 3-year program for less than 40000 rupees, so it is very much affordable and convenient. Further, there are a lot of scholarships and freeships which are provided to the students of lower socioeconomic background and also to the ones who have an excellent academic record. Furthermore, I have done several internships in my 1st year. I have worked with Helping Brainz, Robin Hood Army, Safejob, Adore India, Those in need, etc. SOME OF THESE INTERNSHIPS WERE PAID AND SOME WERE VOLUNTARY IN NATURE.
Campus Life
the annual fests TARANG in the month of February is the most awaited event throughout the year. Each department also holds an annual meet for their respective students, especially in the months of February and March. also, the events such as Kala, Noor, nexus organized by the national service scheme are one of the most fun filled fests. Further, the library is one of the knowledgeable places one could visit inside the campus. there is a reference room as well which remains open till 8 p.m. and the best part is that it's fully air-conditioned. further, all classrooms have projectors installed inside them to enhance the teaching-learning process. there are a bunch of societies like Debsoc, Abhivyakti, Prakriti, NCC, National Sports Organization, Placement Cell, MUNSOC, etc. Also, the National Sports Organisation helps students to engage in sports like table tennis, badminton, volleyball, boxing, among others throughout the year.
Hostel Facilities
One could find a table, a chair, a bed and mattress, and an almirah in the rooms provided by PG accommodation. Also, it is very difficult to find single-person rooms and one has to accommodate at least two to four people in a room. Further, the quality of food isn't very good and one has to just make her way out of the food that is provided. The menu isn't much variable, one gets to eat whatever is available at a cheaper rate in the market. The registration process of the hostel isn't very tough and one has to just clear the Residence Hall's cut-off to get accommodation. It's highly affordable in comparison with the PG accommodations. The hostel's food is also very nice, as generally recommended by the hostellers. I rented a room in Amar colony which is just at a distance of 800 meters from the college.
