Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to go for a technical degree to complete my undergraduation degree and more specifically something related to communications and public speaking thus, I opted for journalism. The moment I decided journalism I started looking for best colleges which provide the same course. And pretty obvious LSR topped the list of all the colleges I made for myself. The next thing I remember was getting into LSR journalism in the first round itself. The course is a combination of theoretical and practical subjects. There must be workshops arranged regularly on various editing and creactive tools to help the students upskill. The exams are conducted twice a year usually in the month of May and December. There are also a lot of internal tests and assignments for each subject just before the exam starts and all of them take place at once again depends on the teacher so the time when internals take place might make you anxious. The level of exams are fine its not very difficult you can get decent score in the finals examination but the internal matter.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities are a little less as compared to the crowd but there are several part time and full time internships circulated via the pcell. The companies that offer summer internships include McKinsey, BCG, Nation with Namo, Godrej, Bain, Genpact, JSW etc with stipend ranging from 1k0 to 60k per month. There are also short term internships which are circulated throughout the year.
Placement Experience
The placement cell of our college is functional and active. The chances depend on the course that you have opted for. The placements are really good for commerce, economics, Maths, Stats but for the other department's students it might be a bit challenging to find a company of their domain. The students become eligible to sit in placement from 5th semester. The companies that visit my college are Godrej, BCG, McKinsey, Nation with Namo, Blackstone, Accenture, KPMG, EY, citibank, microsoft and Amazon etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The annual fee is Rs. 30,000 which is to be paid before the odd semester begins in one installment. The fee decreases a bit in the second year somewhere around 28,000. The fee structure remains same for all the categories like Gen, SC, ST, and OBC while the Pwd category gets a good waiver on the fees. Yes there are several aids for student offered by the university and college itself.
Campus Life
The overall campus life is great you will have a good time in the college. The atmosphere is highly energetic you will be surrounded by higly enthusiastic and talented people. The college is fun with a lot of ECA's and performing socities that you can be a part of. The annual college fest Tarang is the best time when you can enjoy and explore varieties of stalls, take part in competitions, dance your heart out and many more fun activities to do. We also have a cultural fest named noor which is organised by the NSS it is held around diwali. The classrooms are well-maintained in the new building but old building needs a little more attention. The library has functional ACs.
Admission
This college was at the top in my preference list and I got it in the first round itself that's why I didn't have any chance to look at other options. The admission process is simple you simply need to appear for the CUET examination which is held once in a year. You can appear after your 12th. Students from all the stream can opt for journalism as it is multi-disciplinary. The exams are hheld for over a week in different slots. Once the result is out you need to apply on DU's portal making a list of all the college and courses that you are targeting in the order of your preference. After that wait for the results to be announced. There are 3 rounds usually. The cutoffs are high for all the courses in LSR you need to score 98+ percentile belonging to general category while the cutoff for reserved category is a little low.
Faculty
In my department we have 7 faculty member to cater to approximately 125 students which seems fine. Every semester you get to read 3 core paper along with one generic elective which are 4 credit paper. Apart from this we have 3 papers of 2 credit for which students are provided with ample amount of choices both practical and theoretical. The faculties are good they train you to face the outside world realities. I found them helpful. The exams are not very difficult if someone has been regular and listens actively in the class then there are high chances that the person will perform good.
Night Life
The college is situated in Lajpat Nagar which is the central part of South Delhi thus it is surrounded by many attractions. We have a very well maintained library where you can enjoy studying or reading books. There is also a central Library near the college. There are many cafes in Amar colony like the hunger strike, xero degrees, QD's. Inside college you can enjoy the hot maggie and iced tea from the Nescafe its my go to thing.
