Entrance Preview

JEE Mains and JEE Advanced-2013, Scored 187/360 in JEE Advanced and 239/360 in JEE Mains. IIT-B was the best option available. Ranked Best Engineering Institute in India.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

My department ( Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science) is basically a research-oriented department with a high focus on Material Science. The UG- curriculum is interdisciplinary which has some courses in the Mechanical and Chemical Department. I would say Material Science is an emerging department but is an offbeat branch in India.

Internships Opportunities

IIT-B has a Placement and Training Cell which looks after the Internship of all the departments. Internships are open for Sophomores and Third Year Undergrads. The Internships are mostly paid. The Internships are in various fields: Software (Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Samsung), Tech Companies (Sony Japan, Tata Steel, Airbus, Schlumberger, GE).

Placement Experience

5

The placements are one of the best for undergraduate students in India. The students have a plethora of options to do a job ranging from the Finance Sector, Consultancy, Tech Companies, FMCGs, etc. The Institute does not disclose the figures of packages, but the highest package has been up to USD 240k per annum in companies like Facebook, Google.

College Events

5

Mood Indigo: Asia's Largest College Cultural Festival held in December every year. The footfall of around 1.3 lakh in 3 days.Techfest: Asia's Largest Science and Technology Festival held in the last week of December or the first week of January. The footfall of more than 0.1 million in 3 days.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Tuition Fees INR 90k per year. Mess fees INR 30k per year. A total of INR 1.5 lakh per annum keeping in account the hostel fees and other misc. expenses. From this year onwards, the tuition fee is increased to INR 2 lakh/year, which I believe is a bit expensive.

Fees and Financial Aid

Merit-cum-means(MCM) Scholarship provided to students whose parents have income below a particular limit. Institute also provides Cash Awards for Academic Excellence to Department Rank holders every year, though it is a bit less.

Campus Life

4.5

Girl to Boy ratio is 1: 10 and one of the most skewed in the country. We have state-of-the-art sports and gym facilities. The institute has year around extra-curricular activities going on. We have a lot of tech and cultural societies, like STAB( Students Technical Activities Body), Dance Club, Dramatic Clubs, Literary Society, etc.

Exam Structure

The Exam Structure depends on the Professor, with a basic framework of a Mid Semester and End Semester with variable Quizzes and Assignment. The number of quizzes and assignment weightage depends on the Professor. The schedule is a bit hectic but manageable. Labs are generally 3 hrs/ week.

Admission

JEE Advanced. Screening through JEE Mains and 12th Board Results. Admission is Merit-based (AIR-All India Rank). The IITs have a common admission process for undergraduate admissions, called IIT-JEE, which was replaced by Joint Entrance Examination Advanced in 2013.

Faculty

4.5

The Faculty of IIT Bombay is one of the best in the world. They are all well qualified and at par with the Top Universities of the world. Well, some of the professors take a lot of efforts than others in explaining the concepts and care in understanding the topics by the students. We have Teaching Assistants who help in conducting tutorials and explaining some doubts.

Students are eligible to apply for placement is after 2 year or at 5th semester. And companies that have visited are Morgan Stanley, TCS, JP Morgan, etc. and many others. Basic package is about 7 lacs per annum which I consider as okay for freshers. And the student which got highest is 26 lac per annum as he was one of the brightest student of the college. I think 50 to 60 percent students get placed more or less maximum are low package students. My plans are different than doing job so not applied at any of the job.
