Remarks

Initially, I would like to mention that the chemical engineering department of Calcutta University is one of the richest and oldest in India. So naturally, if someone passes BTech in Chemical Engineering from Calcutta University will go to industry easily because of nice placement, but if you want to take admission one thing you must know scoring good marks is a little difficult here. University takes admission on the basis of rank in WBJEE, through the e-counselling process and one decentralised counselling round is also performed. Usually starting of admission depends on WBJEE allotment rounds. After the one month of completion of that allotment rounds decentralised counselling is conducted by University and they charge extra five thousand rupees for that. Actually, as our department is one of the richest and oldest it is very famous in the industry. So every year a lot of students directly enters the industry from here and if anyone wants to do higher study then there are lot of scope.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Actually, I am passionate about chemical engineering that's why I choose it. There are 12 faculty members and 40 students in the department. Almost every faculty members are doing their research in nanotechnology, fluid mechanics, Brownian motion, biochemistry, heat transfer, process engineering, and many more. They are an extremely qualified and good teacher. A lot of collaboration is there with IITs and foreign universities. Term exams have a high standard. We need to study hard to pass that. But if someone understands the topics and study daily he or she will perform well I can assure that.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Department offers three internship opportunities. Haldia petrochemical, IOCL, Asian paints, Burjer, ONGC, NTPC, ATUL, Hindustan petroleum corporation limited, Exide, ITC, LINDE India Limited etc has collaboration with the department for internships. Stipend totally depends upon the expertise of students in required fields. Currently, some project is going on heat transfer, nanotechnology, inverse fluidization, sonochemical synthesis, transport process, interphase phenomenon and many more.

Placement Experience

4

Students can appear for placements after the 6th semester. Burjer, Asian paints, Haldia petrochemical, Jk tyres, Colgate, come here. Average package is 5LPA. Highest package is near 11-12 LPA. 80% of students get placed. I will go for PSUs through GATE and also will appear in placement rounds.

Fees and Financial Aid

Each semester costs five thousand rupees. A lot of scholarship comes from the government of West Bengal depending upon higher secondary. I am still studying so I can't appear on placement rounds. Mainly Haldia petrochemical, Jk tyres, Burjer, Asian paints, are the mass recruiters. Some students also go to PSUs by GATE. Our faculties arrange special classes for GATE and they are very useful.

Campus Life

5

Actually, the fest is conducted each four years. All of our alumni and higher officials of the industry come there. Usually, it occurs in December every four years. People are mainly obsessed with cricket here .some tournaments are organised each year. Tech club, art club, drama club are there. And we also have almaconnect controlled by alumni which helps us to go to industry and also offers some courses.
