Entrance Preview
I took MET-2012(MANET ENTRANCE EXAM) held at Jaipur. I got 5th rank all over in Jaipur. I opted this college because I wanted to join Merchant Navy as a Marine engineer. This college provides the perfect environment for building a marine engineer of future. The infrastructure here is marvelous and the campus is situated at the bank of the Mulla Mutta River in Rajbaug. This college has a 100% placement assistance after full completion of the course. The college is DG SHIPPING approved. The college has all the latest machinery and also it has one of the first SHIP IN CMAPUS all over India. When I came for my interview I as astonished to see the campus and the infrastructure of the college and hostel. The college provides everything that is required to become a future marine engineer.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for our batch is changed compared to our senior batches. The new course V61 is satisfactory. All the theory subjects are cleared up during the first 3 years and the last year (4th year) is kept for practicals in the SHIP IN CAMPUS. The new course focuses more on our practical experience before we pass out so all the practical s of ship in campus are held in the last two semesters. The first 3 years the basics are taught in the lectures which are implied in the last year during our ship in campus practical. To sum up the new course structure is really impressive and help the students to develop the knowledge of practical as on boards ship practical knowledge is the best as told by our alumni students.
Internships Opportunities
No, In our course we do not require an internship. But we do go on a industrial visit and a shipyard trip in order to enhance our knowledge and face the coming future. We went to Mahindra motors PVT LTD for our industrial visit. It was very educational as we various combustion engines and machines. For shipyard visit we are yet to go as it is carried out in the last semester. I am currently in my 7th semester. It is scheduled in next semester in February. From the feedback from seniors we know the visit is very educational as well as fun because we always go to Goa for our shipyard visit and as you know Goa is a happening place. With education cadets have fun over the visit.
Placement Experience
Placement like I told you earlier is good. The college provides 100% placement ASSISTANCE on successful completion of the course. The college on an average every year has a placement record of 60 %or more in my b tech marine engineering course. The college placement management tries harder and harder every year to place more and more cadets of our college in various shipping companies. For my year a no of companies (WILHELMSEN, MOL, V SHIPS, ELITE MARTIME, BW MARTIME) have already selected a total of 39 students till now out of the 200 students in our batch. And many more are yet to come in the next semester With the help of this college and it's faculties only I am currently placed in a well known shipping company BW MARTIME PVT LTD SINGAPORE. I am happy that iI took the right decision and opted for this college. The college do their best to get their cadets placed before they even Complete their course here.
College Events
There are numerous events celebrated in our college every year. Some of them are as follows :-1)Global Shipping Seminar- This is a technical seminar where lectures are given by designated personalities. Directors and chief engineers from different companies come to give lectures on the upcoming future of merchant navy and other technical topics. It is held every year in our college auditorium and attended by cadets from different maritime colleges from all over the country. 2)Inter Maritime - This is a sport event organised by our college every year for all the merchant navy college all over the country to give boost to the sports aspect of our college. Different competitions are organized in this event viz swimming, rowing, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, etcIndependence day and Republic Day are celebrated with full enthusiasm and PARADE is also done by our cadets for the chief guest. 3)Different cultural festivals are also organised bt our college viz durga Pooja, ganesh chaturthi, vishwakarma Pooja etc . All of these events are organized by the cadets and guided by our faculties. All the events are held peacefully and enjoyed by everyone including our faculties.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is a little expensive but compared to other merchant navy colleges it's feasible and cheaper our batch cadets give 1,14,000 per semester which includes the hostel, mess, laundry and tuition fees. Excluding the yearly University Fees which is 19,000. The college gives time to every cadet to pay the fees and if needed they provide leaves so that the student can go back home and arrange for the fees or loans.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are ample of scholarship up for grabs in our college. The students who scored 90+ in their 12th standard are given scholarship every semester provided their aggregate percentage in college exams doesn't fall below 70%.Scholarship are also provided to the National level sportsman. Separate scholarship is give to the girl cadets if they remain all clear throughout their semesters. I come from a middle class family. I am not that intelligent so I was not able to grab these scholarship but the college helped me out with my loan and i am now studying on a student loan from SBI. They give ample of time for the cadets who are paying their fees on loan. They give them extra leaves to go home and collect the money if they have to. The college management helps the cadets as much they can to help the cadets.
Campus Life
Campus life here is really good. We have 3 other colleges in our campus(MIT ID, MIT FOOD TECHNOLOGY,MIT ISBJ). Campus has a breathtaking environment and it brings our the best of nature. The gender ratio here is approximately 1:2 1 being the male. In campus we have a large playground for various extra curricular activities like house competitions, INTER MARTIME, SUMMIT etc. We have PT ground, basketball courts(3), volleyball courts(3), Football ground and a cricket pitch. All kinds of sports equipments are provided by the college in campus only for the cadets to play with. Every year Inter maritime is organized by our college where different marine colleges come from all around the country. Summit is organised by MIT group where all engineering colleges take parts. Coming to student diversity we have cadets from all over the country viz Bihar, Rajasthan, New Delhi etc. I have 2 roommates who are from Bihar and I am from Rajasthan. Their is no gender or race discrimination or religion whatsoever in our college and campus for that matter. We live in harmony and peace. All of us don't care who we are and where we are from, we are here to study and enjoy thats what we care. The whole batch stands for each other in times of need. We help each other at every level from personal to economical. We are not here to divide ourselves, we stay together as a team.
Hostel Facilities
This may sound cheesy but my hostel is the best hostel I have ever seen in my life. I have studied in boarding schools before but this hostel is best of them all. It is designed with such a precision and manner that every room is naturally ventilated by the breeze from the breathtaking nature in the campus. Hostel building is bigger than our college building so now you can understand how spacious it is. The engineering is just marvelous. Though during rain time this comes to a disadvantage because of the openings a lot of rain water comes in the corridor but it is washed away the next day by the cleaning staff who are regularly scheduled everyday to clean each room and attached bathrooms too. 3 cadets lives in one room. The mess food is average. It's not that good but not that bad also. It's just good and the quality provided is sufficient to fulfill our needs. But sometimes it does happen that the quality is degraded but it taken care by the MESS COMMITTE MEMBERS which includes cadets only who are in charge of the mess. They take notes and suggestions from the students and forward it to the mess incharge and monthly meetings are also help to make sure the cadets are provided with a better meal every day. There are two cadet mess which are large enough to accommodate more than 1000 students of our college including BSc Nautical and B tech marine engineering cadets. The college take 75thousand for all the hostel charges and the mess charges 18thousand per semester.
Alumni/Alumna
The college organises Alumni Interactions every year. A lot of passed our cadets come to meet with the juniors. The passes out cadets who are placed in companies come to the college and share their experience about how the life on a ship really is. They tell you first hand about the life of a marine engineer on board ship. They build our courage and enthusiasm towards this field as they provide us with their experience on board the ship which is really helpful for an aspiring marine engineer. They tell us the pros and cons of the merchant navy life. They tell us if we concentrate here in our studies we will definitely do more than just good in practical on board ship.
Exam Structure
Exams are carried out in a very sophisticated way. Cadets are provided with a 15day Preparation leave which leads to the theory papers. The theory papers are finished first and then the practical dates are decided a per their PRN no. Between each theory paper there is a leave for one day for preparing which becomes hectic if you do no study during your 15 day preparation leave. So it is better to study during the preparation leaves which are more than sufficient to cover up the syllabus if you are regular in class. And as the college is DG SHIPPING approved 100% attendance is mandatory and the examination University (YCMOU) allows 80% attendance only.
Faculty
The faculty here is very good. All the technical subjects are taught by experienced Chief Engineers from merchant navy. The basic subjects are taught by faculties who are passed out as m tech form iit. The only problem occurs during the first year where the subjects are taught by new faculties who are very you nd and change year after year. They are not experienced also. But all together the faculty here are really good and help the cadets to build all around knowledge. The best faculties are in the ship in campus who conducts our practical in the last year. They are the more experienced ones in shipping industry and give us their practical knowledge also.
