Remarks

I chose this college because it's academically one of the best colleges of Kolkata. Yes, it's a very strict institution with less activities and no fest but academically it's one of the best colleges ever and the faculty is really good and helpful, the quality of education is great. Again, I cannot vouch for the faculty of all the departments but Communicative English department definitely has amazing faculty. Overall satisfactory. If you want a good academic experience, Gokhale is the place for you.

Course Curriculum Overview

My course, Communicative English Major is very beneficial and I'm glad I took this up. The faculty is amazing, our HOD and other professors are very helpful and knowledgeable. My course syllabus is updated and our classes are held on a regular basis very properly with quality teaching.

Some courses have their compulsory internships in 3rd year and get placement opportunity. Tata Consultancy Service visits for placement opportunities.

College Events

The campus life is not so dynamic considering how our college focuses on education primarily. We do not have our own fest nor are we encouraged much to participate in other inter college fests. However, college's annual programme is held every year where students participate in numbers of events like dance, music, drama, recitation etc. Also an exhibition is held where students get the opportunity to showcase their talents. Apart from that students do participate in certain debate competitions, MUNs etc literary events.

Every year the college organises sports and students are encouraged to participate. They are also encouraged to participate in university level sports meet and intra college, inter college sports meet. We have a very good library facility with enough books. Apart from that, every necessary thing like labs, canteen etc are available in a good condition.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus of the course is pretty nice with diversified subjects alsong with specialization subjects in the 3rd and 4th semester. Some compulsory subjects include Tagore Studies and Basics of Communication. The course also includes Development Communication, Online media, Journalism, Gender studies, Advanced Audio Visual Production. The department is well equipped a mac lab but it only have 5 macs. The curriculum also includes Design, UIUX, Graphics design etc, and the curriculum is continuously updating with moden media teachings. The curriculum mostly prepare us for Academic Purposes than Industry.

Odd semesters usually have a lot of time like 6-8 months but even semesters barely consist of 2-3 months.

One of the Best college in India.

I had applied for Ashutosh college, Muralidhar college, bethun college and Gokhale Memorial Girl's College for BSC psychology. But I did not get BSC psychology in bethune college so I was waiting for other colleges though my dream college was Gokhale Memorial girls College. First I had got a call from Muralidhar college and then after 2 to 3 days I got a call from vocal Memorial girls College. By call I meant that first my name came in the Muralidhar girls College merit list and then my name was published in the Gokul Memorial girls College merit list as this is my dream college I choose it over other colleges. Do not go by the past glory.

The admission was smooth, but in the payment process, I didn't get my money back from few colleges I applied for but didn't continue. All the candidates should keep an update of news and links of admission. SC and ST will get benifits along with OBCs, Calcutta University has bad placements and the syllabus has become a Little bit difficult.
