Remarks
Firstly it was very close to my house. So my parents wants me to go there. I knew about the academic excellence of the institute from its ranking and other reviews. Then before the counseling when I talked to my seniors, they all told me about the beautiful and huge campus( 1024 acres, 2nd largest after IIT Kharagpur). And then it offers the tastiest food compared to other IITs n NITs( Though the mess fees are a bit more compared to other colleges). And then it has the best teachers for mechanical which I wanted to pursue.
Course Curriculum Overview
To be honest the present syllabus in the IITs & NITs are really outdated. There are few nice profs who modify the contents to make it more industry oriented and then teach. There were a lot many nice profs. To name a few Prof. Alok Satapathy(Thermodynamics), Prof. S Pradhan (Mathematics), Prof P.S. Balaji(Mechanics of solid) were my all time favourite.
Placement Experience
Despite it's distance from the nearest airport the institute has seen a lot of growth in the placement seasons. All credits goes to the Training& Placement cell of the Institute. Amazon, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, Bajaj, Tata group, Aditya Birla group, ISRO, GAIL, IOCL are one of the few companies who visit and hire graduates every year.
College Events
Being one of the oldest NIT, it has more than 70 student clubs registered under the Student Activity Center (SAC). There are two major fests in the campus, Innovision (tech fest) and Nitrutsav(cultural fest). One in each semester. Apart from that there are other fests like Cosmopolitan fest in which students from all over India, Middle East countries and African nations perform their ritual dance and dramas.
Fees and Financial Aid
The campus SBI provides loan to all the candidates taking admission in the college. Apart from that there are few other scholarships like Samsung Star Scholarship, FFE scholarship, Prerana scholarship and Alumni endorsement scholarship of the institute which can be availed on fulfilling necessary criteria.
Campus Life
NIT Rourkela has the best infrastructure among all NITs and it's better than quite a few IITs too. There is a swimming pool near the central gymnasium which attract a lot of Freshers. Separate badminton court, volleyball court, gymnasium is there for every hall. Apart from that the insti has football stadium, cricket stadium, lawn tennis court, basketball court, handball court Nd so on.
Hostel Facilities
There are enough rooms to accommodate all the students. 1st and 2nd years has to share their room with someone but 3rd and 4th years get single rooms. Some hostels are a bit old but all the hostel administrations maintain proper hygiene of the rooms, corridor, washrooms, study rooms and common rooms. Every hostel has separate dining hall whose menu changes every month.
