Remarks
I had an inclination towards joining HR and being one of the colleges with a dedicated HRM course definitely pushed me towards joining IIM Ranchi. Apart from this IIM Ranchi is a dark horse when it is compared to other IIMs and has been doing quite well in corporate competition. Way back in 2014 when I was in my B.Tech I had a chance to compete in the Zonal finals of the TATA Crucible which has a big name and there was a team from IIM Ranchi in the finals which was doing great against teams from other premier institutes from the eastern region. I think a bias had crept in at that point of time even before I had a chance to write the CAT.
Course Curriculum Overview
The faculties are fantastic and each of them have a unique way of presenting things in class which make the subject very engaging. Perhaps this is the difference between an IIM and other B-Schools. Though most of you might have heard that the curriculum is very hectic, it is in the interest of the student which helps them grasp things in the least possible time. Projects and assignments given to people provide ample scope for self learning. The course itself at times might seem old and redundant but there are electives which focus more on vogue skills. In addition to this there are multiple industry experts who teach us courses and give an insight on how things happen in an industry coupled with their experience, which is very helpful and gives students an insight and headway as to what to expect when they are in the corporate world.
Placement Experience
The opportunities all quite well balanced. We have top financial companies offering front end roles to bright students from IIM Ranchi. Sector wise we have companies from BFSI, Consulting, FMCG, Manufacturing, IT etc. Role wise we have Investment Banking, Marketing and Sales, Operations, HRBP, General Management etc. The placements are very competitive which tells you the kind of students that IIM Ranchi has. Apart from these there are startups as well which pay huge sums of money to get bright students.
College Events
Extra curricular activities are what keep MBA students alive and there are ample opportunities to take part in them for all the students. IIM Ranchi has "Agon" which is a management fest and "Rush" which is a sports cultural fest of IIM Ranchi. On top of that we also have TEDx IIM Ranchi where we have had imminent personalities from all spheres. Apart from this each and every festival is celebrated on the campus with pomp and flair so that students do not feel home sick.
Campus Life
As of now IIM Ranchi is running out of a rented campus which is in the heart of the city and there is a new campus that is being built in which the 2021 batch would have shifted in December 2020 had this pandemic not spread out. That being said IIM Ranchi does not lag behind other IIMs in any sense what so ever. The sports facility that IIM Ranchi students use is the one which hosted National Games in 2011. The sports complex is multi disciplinary with a huge spread of 275 acres. The internet has never been an issue in the institution. You get free wifi at both your classes as well as hostel rooms. The library too has an array of books which can be accessed very easily. Also for the comfort of students a library has been opened at the hostel so that students do not have to fret over books which they might need in the middle of night.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are extremely good. Each and every student gets their own room which not many students from other IIMs can claim. Your privacy is well taken care of with the room provided to you solely, big enough for two people. No student stay away from the campus since there are ample rooms for all. All hostel rooms have internet facilities. Adding to this all hostel rooms have a cupboard, mirror, beds and cabinets for you to store your belongings. Problems if any are taken care of by Student facility Committee who are available just at a phone call. Mess facilities are great as well which have a pan india cuisine so that no child is bereft of their staple foods and dishes.
