My road to becoming an IITian

Considering the nominal fees, quality infrastructure, experienced and well qualified faculty, mass range of extracurricular activities like sports and techfests along with cultural events, I don't think I have much complaints about IIT Dharwad.

The quality of the study is top notch. Since the mentor institute of IIT Dharwad is IIT Bombay, the professors and faculty are very well qualified and that is seen in their teaching process. The course is one of the best in IIT ecosystem, with focus in computer science on subjects like artificial intelligence, quantum information and robotics, etc. The exam structure is semester based with two semester every academic year.

The placement cell and alumni network really has proved to be a blessing for us. Many batch mates of mine, approximately 90% got placed in reputed companies with attractive packages ranging from 7-14 lakh per annum. Companies that regularly hand pick students from my college are Tech mahindra, Tcs, HSBC, Bosch, Tata Motors, etc. The college also provides in house internships to students with attractive stipends and bonus.

The fee structure for B.Tech in Computer Science in IIT Dharwad is 8.8 lakhs for the whole duration of the course (4 years). I paid the fees yearly but the fees can also be paid semester wise. The fees is affordable and worst the money considering many Engineering colleges in India are heavier on the pockets and this being an IIT makes it worth every penny spent.

The equipment, appliances and resources in the laboratories are well maintained and standard. There are several extracurricular activities in the college. We participated in sports tournament last year, also there is the Inter IIT sports meet which is an annual event where all the IITians get together and display their skill. The technical event - PARSEC, the first edition techfest in IIT Dharwad happened in February 2020.

The hostel rooms are spacious and comfortable for a student living away from home. The rooms are available on single, double and triple occupancy basis. Food is of various types and variety and is good to the taste buds. Since the college is away from the city there are not many choices for food but arrangements can be made. In case a person does not want to accommodate in a hostel, PG room can be considered as an option.

I got admission to the college on the basis of my scores in 10+2, minimum required in 75% in grades and also entrance exams, JEE and JEE advance are required to be cleared, seat is achieved on the basis of cutoff of marks. Although to get my preferred choice of course I had to achieve a certain rank. All of this depends on the allocation and availability of seats in the preferred course. As previously mentioned the faculty is well qualified and assist us when we face problems in projects and assignments. We also have visiting professors from IIT Bombay and IIT Madras. The faculty support us with their experience and impart their knowledge to us. Since our IIT is still a baby institute, great focus and care is provided for us students.
