Fatema Sayeed's Review On Jamia Millia Islamia University-[JMI], New Delhi

The college is an amazing place for anyone who has a kind heart warm smile an ability to learn and a high spirit to work for the welfare of society and make our country orally healthy.

I took WBJEE,AIPMT,Jamia entrance examination. In the Jamia entrance I scored all India rank of 20 for admission in its Dentistry course. Dentistry always fascinated me,MBBS has always been a popular preference in medical and most students neglect dentistry but in India today a lot of awareness is needed with regard to maintaining a healthy oral hygiene for a better life oral cavity problems are ignored and the problem aggravates,oral maintenance is vital for proper speech,food habits,aesthetics hence I choose to be a dental surgeon to be an agent of change in my society and work towards a progressive India where people have strong general and oral health.

The course curriculum was seamless. It is a 5 year course where in the firsr year we are taught of the normal anatomy physiology and biochemistry of humans and second year is followed with deviation from normal with pathology microbiology and the drugs pharmacology at the same time our practical skills are developed with preclinical laboratories in third year we start working on patients we have three internal examinations and one proffesional exam each subjecy has a theory a peactical and a viva. Overall it is a perfect combination of theory and practical enhancing the overall development of an individual and imbibing the dynamic personality of a responsible doctor of the society.

The internship experience is great the dental hospital and its facilities are highly up to date. The general stipend is around 14,000. Since our course trains as a doctors we don't have companies coming to our college the professional makes one self employ as after passing we are efficient to start a clinic on our own most students either start their own clinics or they prepare for masters entrance MDS master in dental surgery or they take up practice or teaching in other private and Government colleges.

The college has an annual fest Zest it is held on a grand scale and has participation from a number of reputed government and private medical and dental colleges. Apart from that we have Teachers Day,Foundation day celebrated. The teachers day is organised by the second year and a number of events are held for the teachers and handmade cards are offered to them.

Fee structure was feasible the fees were around 30, 000 annually Jamia Millia University is a central Government funded agency. The fees included the total cost of teaching, labs,library and all the facilities provided were excellent.

There is a Dr Apj Abdul Kalam scholarship for financially weak students offered by the university for students whose parents annual income does not exceed 2 lakh.

The college has never discriminated between the genders all genders are treated equally,hostel parties are held twice annually the fresher's and the farewell it has been a great experience there are DJ nights and grand scale parties in the respective girls and boys hostels. The faculty environment is tolerant and open to all religions no dress code has ever been imposed as doctors we necessarily have to wear our lab coats,gloves and head cap. There are no student wings and party politics in the college every year has been assigned a professor and councillor for redressal of complaints and problems.

The hostels were good but the process of admission is complicated though initially the seats were less now the problem has been solved with many new girls hostel being built. The room is shared between 3 girls and the hostel has a reading room and a TV room along with an up to date gymnasium. The construction is very nice as each hostel have huge gardens in the centre of the building giving the residents a pleasant pollution free atmosphere and environment to live in.

The college seniors and alumni have praised the college for the way it has imparted holistic education and training for making ideal doctors for the society.

The exams are hectic because in a medical course they have to train us adequately for being responsible doctors to society we cannot play with the life of a human hence the course really keeps us busy throughout the year with 3 internals and one professional exam.

It was impeccable the teachers are highly qualified most of them coming from reputed institutions like AIIMS,Maulana Azad,King George Medical and Dental College. Even the non teaching staff are highly trained and disciplined.Last year the NAAC had awarded A grade to the University.
