I chose M.A Honours in Political Science so in our first semester we had theory and concept of political science , Nationalism In India, Political Process in India along with Environmental studies which was a mandatory subject for each students in semester 1 and English In semester 2.

Placement Experience

Placement is modest and internship is provided from college to few students, this year many students were lucky to get good internship including me with a stipend of 4000, which helped us learn and acquire a lot.

College Events

Our college has two National Cadet corps (NCC)Companies. There is a separate unit for girls where they are encouraged to join and take part in various activities. In 2016 one of our Senior escorted PM Narendra Modi in a rally in New Delhi. We celebrate Statistics day to pay homage of Late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis .

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee for my course was Rs.5940 in aggregate and it is immensely economical compared to other universities in North Bengal. The Fee structure is one of the major point attracting students to purse degree from our college in Jalpaiguri.

Campus Life

Our college is well named for sports and extracurricular activities. Both indoor and outdoor games are accessible , there are two play grounds, the entire gymnasium is around 7200 sq.ft. Many of the students played at international level from our college.

Admission

I applied for this course from college's website and the mode of payment can be both online and offline. The admission criteria was Merit based, Marks achieved in class 12. Marks obtained in English and marks obtained in best of three subjects excluding ENVS are taken into consideration before preparing the final Merit panel list.

Faculty

We have eleven departments and our political science faculties are all Scholars they have completed their PH.D degree from top universities. They help with any doubts we face in regular classes , every week professors conduct lectures which help build our notion.

Campus life: Hype vs Truth

Placement Experience:

I heard it from seniors that before lockdown it was pretty decent but after lockdown the company visits are not that much comapred to before lockdown.Cognizent, Accenture, Mindtree, PQ360 which is a startup company of our senior alumni etc. visits.

The placement record in my college is preety good. 80-90% students are already placed this year. Average package is around 9.5lpa. Companies like ICICI, KPMG, PWC, Vedanta, Mother Dairy and so many are coming for recuiting students.

St Joseph's college a Decent one

Placement Experience:

Placements were not there earlier. But our batch was the first one to get placement at St Joseph's College Darjeeling. To be honest It is not a college you should target if you are looking for placement. The companies were too small . The roles are way to entry level . Highest placement was around 40000 per month but it was an inside sales role so many opt out. There is not official data about placement . My plan was to look for off campus jobs.

The life in HITK

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for campus placement in cse, it ,ece and sometimes elec branches. The others dpt also offers a quite unique variety of placements from different companies. Nearly 60 percent of the students have been placed in this year and others are still on board for a positive response.

A good government aided college

I applied for Siliguri college, Darjeeling college, Kurseong college and I get the chance of admission in these colleges. But I choose ac college over the other colleges because the college is very renowned and my department the department of botany have produced many university toppers. The admission process is simple.
