Remarks
IEM taught us that at times it is good to tame students with strict rules because that's what makes us stand out from the students belonging to the rest of the colleges. We were better prepared during the placement seasons. And most of the companies had the highest number of recruits from our college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Apart from the daily curriculum from MAKAUT, IEM pays a lot of attention in keeping students up-to-date with recent technologies. We're made to participate in regular workshops and events so that we get an essence of the kind of technologies that are being recently used in the industries.
Placement Experience
Our college guarantees a 100% placement only if students fulfill the criteria asked by the company in the first place. 13 students including me got offer letters from 4 renowned IT firms. 7 students got offers from 5 different companies. And almost 80% of the class strength got placed in at least 1 company. IEM is famous for guaranteed jobs and it's strict rules which allows us to perform better at the work feild too.
College Events
Tech fest - students from all over the colleges in West Bengal can participate. Cultural fest- only students from IEM can participate. Maker's faire- students and makers from anywhere in the world can participate. IEMIS - International Conference -- researchers and science from all over the world participated in this conference. Food Mart- students from IEM can only participate. Ravindra jayantee- students from IEM only can participate. NIRVANA - the biggest fest held solely by IEM ashram campus and students from anywhere can participate.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible if compared to other colleges. At least the placement is guaranteed so 50000 per semester seems normal, compared to other colleges with similar fee structure but no guaranteed jobs. Also, the strict disciplined environment ensures every students are made to attend at least 80% of the classes taken. It's worth every penny.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
I didn't opt for any scholarship or education loan. But as I've heard from my friends the college does have scholarship and education loan facilities.
Campus Life
Campus life isn't as fun as we see in typical bollywood movies. We had more of a school life experience. We had to enter college by 9:13 and leaving college before 4pm is prohibited. We had biometrics for attendance. Also in each class separately attendance was taken. If someone wouldn't attend the classes properly their attendance would be cut off. For parties we used to celebrate teacher's day, any teacher's birthday, farewell for teachers who left the college. We found our happiness between those strict rules. There were people from all religions. Even there was a girl from Nigeria too. Everyone was treated equally. Complaints against bullying were taken very seriously.
Alumni/Alumna
We had alumni meets in our first year where the seniors discussed how to survive in industry, how to get jobs in the first place. They helped us a lot regarding the preparation for placement season. Senior students have always been like teachers to us, they still help us whenever we need them even now.
Admission
My ISC marks were more than enough to fulfill the criteria for getting admission. I was into programming since my childhood and always wanted to get myself admitted into a college where we can learn the practical application of basic computer learning and put the knowledge into industrial use.
Faculty
There are more than 2 assinged faculty members for each subject. So even if a faculty is absent students don't miss a class. Faculties are mostly in their mid 30's who have recently completed their PHDs. Each faculty apart from their expertise in their assigned subject have the capability to teach other subjects too. Also, they are very helpful. I've been studying in this college for 3 years now and I never had to take external tuitions. I always had an option of clearing my doubts from the faculty members. There are teachers who have worked in the famous IT firms like TCS, WIPRO and IBM for many years. So while teaching generic subjects they also give us an idea about how these knowledge will be relevant in industry.
