The great institution is quite well managed inspite of having so many students of so many batches.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum has a span of 3 years. The course structure during my time was yearly, that is, once a year. However now the college has shifted to the semester pattern. So there is exam every 6 months. The course is quite intriguing. It is research dirven and fair and quite useful for future use. There were no industrial visits though.

Placement Experience

The placement scenario is avergae. In three years of the time I spent there, er didn't get much opportunity. Only once did a company come.

College Events

Asutosh College has a plethora of events going on all throughout the year. There isn't a single time that there's not an event going on. From Holi to Durga Puja to contests and talent hunt everything takes place in the campus. Only the freshers welcome takes place at Nazrul Mancha.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since Asutosh College is a government college the fee structure is quite low and hence affordable. The payment has to be done to a specified bank and the challan thus produced has to be submitted to college as a proof of payment. There are no additional fees charged for anything. Fully transparent fee breakdown.

No I personally didn't apply for any scholarship or loan as I already mentioned that the fess structure was affordable.

Campus Life

Campus Life is great. As I already mentioned that there are a plethora of events going on always, so it's a great opportunity for students. Gender ratio is quite equal I would say. There was no discrimination on any kind or on basis of anything in the campus.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes senior students are quite helpful. Specifically my seniors were great actually; they helped me in many things. No such alumni have I noticed though.

Admission

After my ISC results were declared, I applied to the college online through its website. After few days, they released their merit list online. I saw that I had qualified in their merit list. So on the given date I went to college to admit myself. I liked the location and faculty of the college so I opted for it.

Faculty

The faculty is quite good. There are many teachers who are experts in their particular fields. Approx there were 10 teachers in our Mathematics department. All of them were kind and helpful. I have no idea about whether they did hold any relevant industry-experience or certifications or not.

Placement Experience:

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

Placement Experience:

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

My experience at St. Xavier's

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course theory helps us gain a solid understanding of the subject matter. Film studies and Mass Communication theory classes has laid down the foundation of the subject- from what is a shot and the kinds of shots and angles, to the beginning of radio in India and essays by CS Pierce and John Berger. The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

Placement Experience:

Our college has a very active placement cell that fetches jobs for everyone who needs and deserve it. The highest package was 24 lacs per annum last year and it is only expected to go up this round almost all students to set for placements are placed but in my department specifically most opt for higher studies like myself.

We have a placement cell helping students get placed. They keep posting opportunities like internships and fellowships throughout the year to groom students and give them exposure and experience. Placements can go to very high packages like those in Data Science, Big 4 consulting or core finance or banking jobs. CAs, CFAs and FRMs do well in the placements. The highest packages could surpass 12-13 LPA and median packages are close to 6-7 LPA. DE Shaw, Zomato, Myntra, Meesho, TCS and McKinsey are some top companies coming here.

In our batch, we are 21 students who come regularly, the faculties are 6, whereas 2 lab attendants. All faculties are MSc and 4 of them have PhDs. Yes, in our college it takes an internal exam & that's very tough.

I applied in a lot of colleges such as presidency, st Xavier's College Kolkata, Lady Brabourne, Loreto , Scottish Church got accepted in scottish, Loreto , brabourne I chose Asutosh because they made me feel comfortable and has the best geography department. I have applied for Dinabandhu Andrews College and also New Alipore College for mathematics hons and I got selected for both the colleges and I started class in Dinabandhu Andrews College for few days but there the faculty used to talk in Bengali and the faculty members are not really good also the ambience so I applied in Asutosh College and I got selected too over there....so I shifted to Asutosh College, as I always wanted to persue this course from Asutosh College due to there faculty in this subject is really very good. I applied for Bangabashi college, Surendranath college, Vidyasagar college... but Asutosh College was my dream...because it is the best co-ed college for Psychology...that's why everyone who wants to study psychology literally craves for the department..I was also one of them..and I'm really grateful to God for helping me to get into this college. An honest opinion by a recent graduate

I applied to presidency, st. Xavier's, but as I was from Covid batch, I couldn't meet the required cutoff for those colleges. So yes I got rejection from them. Had I given my ISC board exams, I believe I'd have scored better marks, but hard luck :) I willingly chose this college over the other colleges of Calcutta University, considering this is the best. This college gets numerous applications, so it might be difficult to get the admission, but work upon your merit and connections. There's no entrance. You need to meet their eligibility criteria which keeps get changing, so refer to their website. Your merit will be considered. You must have a good network as well.
