Remarks

Really enjoyed the whole experience if being at the university and my department. Although, new methods and exposure techniques need to be applied and agreed upon by the college management to boost up quality, extracurricular and placements. Also, building up collaboration and strong Alumni Base.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course covers the wide-area from expert teachers and a plethora of technical conferences that we get to attend and be a part of all over India. In my course years, we got to host Chemcon which is the biggest event in Chemical Engineering Student Life. Also, techno-management skills helped gain management aspect also to enhance my basic management skills and abilities esp soft skills giving an edge in the professional environment now.

Placement Experience

3.5

A decent CGPA would be above 7 although better if you can maintain above 7.5. That's the average requirement for most of the recruiters. A bunch of extracurriculars would be a boost. On an average 60-70% placements are done. With some students also opting for higher studies. Main companies- Jubliant Life Sciences, Exxon Mobil, EXL, Glenmark, Reliance India, HMEL, nestle etc

College Events

4.5

CYANIDE the annual techno cultural fest of the department, rest are also the university based Cultural Fests, Fundraisers, social organisations, Rotaract Club Teams, Enactus etc, along with debating society, drama club etc the city has a lot of other social organisations where you get to meet new people and learn and improve your exposure where you work in teamsand maybe get to lead one of them too and making life long friendships.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The platform for PU fees is both online as well as offline mode. Although preferred online. No additional charges need to be paid and the fees are based on course to course, which kore or less comes under the feasible category. There are also, scholarships that are offered to economically weaker sections and toppers

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not opt for any loans or scholarship. For scholarships, you have to give Identification proofs and submit details while also giving entrance and eligibility exams in most of the cases. Which really helps the students in monetary support

Campus Life

3.5

We have a functioning and well-equipped labs with the University. The amazing student diversity also helps to widen the cultural acceptance and offers more exposure. The University has a good gender ratio and equal representation of women in students diversity.

Hostel Facilities

5

Not opted for the hostel as I was a day scholar. Although overall experience heard by batch mates was that hostels are really affordable and good for students compared to outside accommodations. They are also pretty conveniently located

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is not as strong as it could have been in the University as well as the department. But whenever contacted the Alumni are really helpful.

Admission

I wanted to opt for Chemical Engineering since I got to know about this multi-dimensional field during 12th standard while preparing for entrance exams. Chandigarh is a really student friendly city with good infrastructure and studying atmosphere and the institute was located there so I went for that. Plus the Department of Chemical Engineering at Panjab University holds a legacy of being established more than 50 years back with a great alumnus. The university also ranked in top 100 quite a few times, which offers a great platform to be a part of education legacy and the environment with great professors, all distinguished in a different discipline. My course even had techno management aspect as it was a dual degree course with MBA. Plus we had an amazing library.

Faculty

4

We studied almost 58-60 subjects in 5 years including management with almost 4 hours on an average per course per week. The university management took feedback from students every semester too. So overall the faculty was very supportive, giving the distributed assignment, projects, group projects and presentations including degree end research projects in both engineerings as well as MBA.

Placement Experience:

You can appear for placements starting from 7th semester onwards plus you can apply yourself as well to various off-campus opportunities. The companies which visit are decent i would say including the likes of Amazon, Deloitte, Hero came as well few years ago for mechanical engineers. Around 50-60 decent companies visit the college for placement with around 300 job offers with the highest package around 41 lpa which was off campus probably but Amazon could give upto 25-30 lpa i guess, The average package would be around 7 lpa i guess but its gonna improve year by year. If you are in CSE or IT you are most chilled with around 80% placements, in ECE as well there are decent placements but after that you have to study really well to get placed But you can always do a lot of things after getting your degree.

I chose this because of the brand of Panjab University. Plus you get a lot of exposure of Chandigarh and there are a lot of opportunities there based on your field, even better than Delhi. Plus you never get distracted in Chandigarh because of the reason that people are too much work and ethics focused. Also, the level of knowledge the teachers have in my college is just great.
