My College Review

The college is very good and especially since it is research based institute, you will learn a lot here.

The college curriculum is excellent as they give us the opportunity to choose from which subjects you want to study. They not only focus on the Major course, they also encourage us to take other courses or subjects of our interest. So, during my college days, I got a Major degree in Mechanical engineering as well as a Minor degree in Civil engineering. It is multidisciplinary and the structure is one of the best in the country. Each and every one there mainly focuses on research since the university is research driven. Also, the exam structure is very practical. The exams there tests the knowledge of students.

Companies which have visited the campus are Mother Dairy, Titan, Dell, Futures First, Daikin, L&T, Saint Gobain etc. The general steps which the companies follow for recruiting are Aptitude and Domain knowledge test, Group discussion, Technical interview and HR interview. Approximately 85% students gets placed every year. Yes, our college have a unit completely dedicated for placement program called Career Development Cell. They start grooming us at least 6 months prior to the placement season.

There are mainly two events, one is intra college event during the month of September every year. And the other one is global event called as BREEZE celebrated. It is techno-cultural-sports event spanning over the course of 4 days mostly in the month of February. Colleges from all over India participates in this event. Many renowned celebrities are also invited. Also, every festival is celebrated.

The fee structure is rather expensive. All the modes of payment are accepted by the college, but no payments can be made in installments. At the beginning of every academic year, total payment must be made. Also, there are various scholarships which the students can avail but only on the basis of merit. There is total transparency in the fee structure.

College scholarships were given on the basis of merit. The elegibility was to secure at least 85 percentage marks in the 12th board exams. There is no such process to apply for that. If you got required marks, automatically scholarships would be given to the students. The average sum would be around 6 lacs.

The campus atmosphere was vibrant, green, calm. Even every seniors were helpful and friendly. There was total freedom inside the campus. You could literally just roam in the campus like 24 hours and no one would object or forbid that. The gender ratio was around for every 100 boys, there were around 60 girls. Parties happened mostly during weekends or if someone had birthdays. Apart from regular studies, there are many workshops held like coding, robotics, Rubik cube solving workshop etc. There were many societies like for drama, dance, music, mythology, robotics, quizzes, art and craft etc. There were students of around 26 states.

Yes, I have opted for hostel. The rooms are as big as you can imagine. In the first year, there were 4 students sharing a room, each having individual bed, table, chair and wardrobe. During 2nd and 3rd year, there was dual sharing. And during final year, we were allowed to opt for individual room.

There are alumni network which are very active, meeting is organised once or twice in 3 months. We hang out together and discuss what's up with their respective lives. We really get very good advices from our seniors. They really are helpful.

I got to know about the college through my cousin brother, so I applied online in the college website for admission. There is an entrance test for the same known as SNUSAT. After giving the test, few days later, I got an email regarding personal interview, for me it was held in Kolkata. After the interview, few days later, selected student's list was uploaded on their website and then they asked us to visit college for further admission process and formalities like enrollment and fees payments. Since, it is a research based institute, I opted for Mechanical engineering course.

All the faculty members there have done PHDs in their respective fields. They are very practical and encourages us to explore and experience different experiments. In my course there are around 15 faculty members. Their average age is around 35 years. The faculty has lot of research experience as well as industrial experience. So, this helps us to understand the depth of subjects easily.
