Remarks
The college is amazing, it selects the best, brightest brains all over India. The college management is not the worst. But, they are prone to favoritism and seldom make changes upon being criticized for any rule implemented/change.
Course Curriculum Overview
The 1st year is a general idea of all the courses. While from the second year, the main course structure starts, throughout the 2,3,4th year, they have core subjects that are required to perform in a Chemical engineering company, while there are 10 optional electives (compulsory) which a student can choose based on his/her liking or the field he/she wants to pursue. This flexibility has helped a lot of students who were inclined towards finance/IT in-spite of being in chemical. There was an industrial visit almost every semester, I had 4 industrial visits in my 4 years. They were pharmaceutical companies mostly.
Placement Experience
There is an approximately 95+% placement, with the rest of the students either proceeding for MS or MBA, or just idle do not sit for placements. There were 4-5 companies from the core sector, such as reliance, etc, while the major companies are from non-tech profile/IT roles. The institution starts to prepare the students for the Placement Specific Quizzes and tests a month before the onset of the placement season.
College Events
There are 3 major fests, Atmos, the Technical Fest, it has a footfall of 3000, all the Technical clubs organize events/competitions with a prize pool of 6-7lakhs. Arena - the sports fest, it has a footfall of over 7000, all the sports clubs organize the sporting events. The BITSIAN teams generally have a podium finish in any event. Verba Maximus (Mini - literary fest) - Events on literature, quizzes, etc are organized in this 2-day event. Pearl - This is the cultural feat of the campus, the biggest on the campus. N footfall it is around 5000, but the participation etc is enormous. All events such as Gaming, Dramatics, Dance, etc are organized, the winners of the competition are given prize money from a pool of around 9lakhs.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is quite expensive, but the brand value of the college. Drives the students to get into it. The fee is payable via SBI collect. We are now able to pay via Paytm/net banking too. It's mostly tuition fee, with around 50,000 towards mess/hostel fee. While the rest is towards other additional charges. Yes, we get a fee receipt, with a breakdown of the amount charged. An additional 25000 has to be paid to book the admission at the beginning of the process, which is adjusted to the Fee if we get a seat in the college.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have availed a scholar loan, from a nearby bank. It gives loans to almost 400+ students on campus. I have received a scholarship just once in my entire college life. A grade above 6.5 earns you a scholarship.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, a hostel is compulsory. There are many hostel rooms, we need not opt for an external PG. The hostels are quite spacious, they provide a Bed, Table, Chair a cupboard. We have an ethernet connection to the hostel room. The bathrooms are neat during the day, due to constant usage, they are quite smelly coming to the end of the day. I would give the hostels an 8/10.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, they are the most helpful bunch of people. They refer the students to jobs, constantly advise the juniors on the opportunity, guide/connect people with their needs and requirements.
Admission
I scored 297, in Bitsat 2015. The exam was held in May. My score was enough to clear the Chemical cutoff. We then had 4 iteration rounds to improve the branch, i.e. get a better branch based on the cutoffs. The selection is based on 1, your score 2, the cutoffs 3, The campus preference.
Faculty
We have around 30 subjects in total, the core topics have a faculty of around 20, of which the main 8-9 teach the major chunk of the topics, while the labs are taken care of the rest. Except for 3-4 lecturers, the other lecturers lack the skills for effective communication, but overall all the lecturers can be graded a 7/10 on an average. The lecturers are around 35-40 avg, years. They have an amazing grip on the subject. They try their best to give clarity on the subject they are teaching. Yes, I found the lectures very industry-oriented because I could relate to what I was working on in the internship because of the lectures.
