Remarks
Academically the college management is doing great work but for hostel management I think it can work way much better.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our course structure almost similar to those in IITs but a little bit changed, as for example in my course with ECE major we also had to study aviation and computer science as per requirements for an ISRO scientist. For exam structure, 2 quizzes of 15 marks, and 20 internal and the rest 50 for final end semester exam for every semester. For research, one thing we take the chance of directly working in different ISRO projects, except that one can also work under our faculty for their individual interested projects.
Placement Experience
Students getting CGPA above 7.5 directly got placed in different ISRO centers and for those below 7.5, the placement cell arranges some companies like Agnicool(spelling may be incorrect) who gives average package of 7-8 LPA.
College Events
Cultural festival named Dhanak and technical festival named Concensia, except that Independence and Republic day, Dewali and Holi, Nabratri and Ganesh chaturthi are also celebrated. In the above two festivals many participants from outside the institute join with us and the other ones are held within our college.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Those who get CGPA above 7.5, they got assistanceship from DoS every semester so they don't have to pay a single penny, but those who can't secure the above mentioned CGPA they have to pay Rs. 50,000 per semester. The mode of payment is through Internet banking. During admission they took Rs. 10,000 which they will return it after graduation. I didn't have to pay till now but I think there is no transparency in the fee-breakdown.
Fees and Financial Aid
I did not need any as every semester I got assistanceship from DoS, so till now I did not have to pay a single penny to IIST.
Campus Life
In our batch the ratio is about 5:2, but in the recent years the ratio is gradually coming down. For extracurricular activities there are several clubs like film, astronomy, physics, music and other sports club and these clubs held their regular activities and meeting. There are also some sports activities like regular cricket and football and basketball practices and matches and also there is sports festival where irrespective of gender and regions(there are students of every religion from 26 states of India) all participate. And usually these technical competitions occur in the annual technical competition.
Hostel Facilities
Students have to stay in the hostels only. For 1st to 3rd year B.Tech students they have to share room for another fellow student and for them the rooms are little bit small but I think we can manage. For final year students and M. Tech students also share room with one fellow students but they are provided way bigger room.
Alumni/Alumna
Senior students usually interact with the junior ones on their own and not only they discuss about academics but also encourages us to join different clubs and other extracurricular activities.
Admission
Simply speaking based on JEE Advanced ranking IIST makes their own ranking of those students who filled their application(usually at the beginning of April), and calls for counselling for the first 2500 students at the end of June or beginning of July, but among them only 140 students got the chance for three branches
Faculty
Faculties are very encouraging and they always ask us to freely communicate with them. They not only take the academic very seriously but also tell us to do some research based work and I think all of them help in this case whole heartedly for the students.
