Remarks
It's a government institution. Don't expect things to be moving at the pace you want. Everyone does their work with their own convenience. They are least concerned with your problem. The quicker you accept it and get used to it, the better will be your life in the institute.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum specifically for communication systems is not that great. There are two problems, one is that the syllabus is not up to date, and the other one is that the faculty for communication systems is either lazy or dumb. None of the communication systems faculty is serious about their work ( of course there are exceptions but only a couple of them ). They don't deserve to be teaching masters students at an institution of national importance. The other major problem is teaching assistants, they are less qualified than the MTech students. Your questions and doubts will rarely be answered.
Placement Experience
Permanent placements don't look so great for MTech students, the t&p department is lazy. They don't care about you and don't make enough efforts to invite the right companies. Also they have ruined their relationship with a lot of companies. The college allows MTech students to do full time internships for 11 months but that has been an area of controversy lately. There are some policies that prevent students from doing internships. But the departments are trying to iron out the issues and they won't be such a big problem in the future.
College Events
Every department conducts their own technical events throughout the year but January to April is when most of them take place. Also there are events like mindbend and TedX that are conducted with collaboration of multiple departments and are huge. Other than technical, the college hosts numerous cultural events around the festive season. The college is also know for hosting a lot of inter NIT technical/sports/cultural events. You won't be bored in this college.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is a little on the expensive side. The fees are as much as any private college. The tuition fee on average for any year (BTech/MTech) is around 100, 000 per academic year. There are options for caste based exemptions and scholarships. The hostel fees come to be around another 60, 000 a year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Educational loans are easily manageable at the local sbi branch. The college operates with the bank seamlessly, no hassle. The only financial aid I receive is from MhrD as a gate qualified master's student which currently is 12, 400 per month, which I never receive on time. First deposit I got was 3 months after joining.
Campus Life
We have really a excellent laboratory facilities. We also have sports and extracurricular activities and we are free to go through it. College is supporting us to go through extra curricular activities.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are average. The construction is poor and maintenance is not that regulated. But the college plans to build 4 new hostels in place of the current hostels with better construction and facilities. The food in the messes is average mess food.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni association of SVNIT is great. They always invite the alumni to conduct various events in the institute in order to guide students. I've always had a good experience talking to the alumni. They will help your regarding jobs/ internships/ certifications.
Admission
I got the admission for MTech by clearing gate. You can get this college if your score is above 500 (Open category). The admission process was simple and went down without hiccups. The staff that handles admission might seem a little lazy to you, but it's okay, your admission will go through. I wanted VLSI but chose to take communication systems because there is always a chance to take the elective subjects and study on your own. Definitely doable.
Faculty
They are helping students in all sides. They support in our projects. Teacher are really friendly. They answer all the questions we ask for. They even help after the college hrs. They help in our research papers.
