Remarks

The college needed total revamp. The faculty of physiology and Zoology were of high standard. Extra curricular activities, Canteen were almost non-existent.

Entrance Preview

My poor grades in class XII forced me with no other option but to chose this college.i scored with 2nd division .it was much below than my own prior standard .considering i was star mark holder in class x Where i got 78%.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Detailed , very big.It was unattractive CBSE/NCERT Produced much better books and syllabus. Considering future of students. Curriculum needed more practical approach to the current world. Not only bookish knowledge.

Internships Opportunities

Nothing in Botany honors, but yes I college internship after pursuing BLISc (Library& Information science)It was only 1200 Rs. at that time .:)but that internship experience helped gain a bright future , during future interviews .

Placement Experience

1

There was no placements . For job opportunities students need to depend on their effort and initiative. This is a big overalll question mark on our Education system, which produces so Many degree holders , but without job.

College Events

1

Culture fests do occurred during college but i could feel it was highly polarised with dominating one sided Students Union operating the whole show. I had later much better experience at TISS , MUMBAI .It opened my eyes to great Knowledge world.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure was moderate, but there were corruption in admission process though student union. There were loopholes in the process.Hopefully by now it would have been solved.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, there was as such nothing , good scholarship / loan facility offered by the college that i know.

Campus Life

2

Extracurricular activities, Canteen were almost non-existent. No sports facility except TT was there. Yes, only once I saw debates to be happening. Boring in a word, below average experience about the college. But I learned to acclimatise in different situation

Hostel Facilities

1

No hostel facilities was available.we have to rely for outside food in the absence of a proper canteen.

Alumni/Alumna

At my time there was no alumni network as such .I missed badly the college culture. The communication gap could be minimized by initiative towards open forums.

Exam Structure

Exams were conducted Under University of Calcutta. Exams were hectic indeed as the syllabus was too large and non -attractive compared to NCERT, CBSE (Which are highly valuable sources for inforamtion).CU lagged behind with old syllabus which was not in trend with current innovation .

Faculty

3

The faculty were far better and probably the only good point about the college. But that too, of zoology and physiology and Botany faculty were just OK.

Placement Experience:

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

Placement Experience:

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

In today's competitive job market it becomes important for the college to not just help students get degrees but also provide them with placements and internships so that they can have the experience needed to stand at a competitive footing with the rest of the candidates in the world. To look into this, St. Xavier's College has a Placement Cell run by Placements officer Mr. Niladri Sinha under whose guidance, various companies visit the college regularly looking for capable young minds to take under their wing and help provide them with the necessary exposure and experience so that they can combat any obstacles that they face.

Placement Experience:

The college offers good placements for economis. Students in their final year are eligible for campus placements and there is a cell dedicated to placements. Many students do not opt for placements and go for higher studies but many students who opt for it, get placed with decent packages. Many well-known companies visit the campus as well. I wish to explore my options after completing the degree as of now.

Placement Experience:

We have a placement cell helping students get placed. They keep posting opportunities like internships and fellowships throughout the year to groom students and give them exposure and experience. Placements can go to very high packages like those in Data Science, Big 4 consulting or core finance or banking jobs. CAs, CFAs and FRMs do well in the placements. The highest packages could surpass 12-13 LPA and median packages are close to 6-7 LPA. DE Shaw, Zomato, Myntra, Meesho, TCS and McKinsey are some top companies coming here.
