Remarks

It was all in all a great experience. Five years seem to have passed by too quickly, I wish it would have lasted longer.

Entrance Preview

I passed out my SSC examination from a school which gave a lot of importance to academic performance. When i visited Sophia College, i instantly fell in love with its luscious green well maintained campus. A college like this one in the heart of the city.WOW. I spent 5 years here under the love and guidance of some very amazing teachers. The teachers here guide you and prepare of you for the world outside. Along with academic, Extra curricular activities are also given importance. It teaches you to be sensitive to nature.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course was vast & difficult, but the faculty made it quite easy with realistic examples and their techniques of teaching. Not many colleges offer a single major in Philosophy. But this one does, because it had very good professors of philosophy.

Placement Experience

4.5

I did not participate in the campus placements. So i do not know much about it. But few friends who did were placed in good companies like NDTV, CNBC, etc. Although i donot know much abt their payroll

College Events

5

Our main college festival is called 'Kaleidoscope' where colleges from all over mumbai are invited to participate. Also a few out station colleges are invited. Other than this, we have 'Ananya' festival, it is an intra-college festival. At my time there were 19 clubs in the college, sports club, nature club, dramatics club to name a few.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees was very cheap for the first 2 years, i. e. 11th and 12th. Main fees was just Rs. 10.Higher standard was also very reasonable, although i do not remember how much it was but it was not very expensive. Those who could not afford it could to approach the college office for assistance.

Fees and Financial Aid

Unfortunately i am not very informed about such a scholarship, but i guess bright students could approach the college office in case they had a crunch which would unable them to pay the fees. The college was sincerely dedicated towards women education, i am sure they aided the ones in need.

Campus Life

5

We had many clubs which would take care of all the activities. A club secretary would be elected by the members. Under the guidance of the staff in charge for that particular club and with the help of the club executives appointed by the secretary, many club activities were organised.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

We did have a beautiful hostel with many rooms and good mess food. I am not aware of the hostel fees though. The rooms were on sharing basis where one had the liberty to be vocal about their room partners, although the final decision was taken by the warden and other management.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students were extremely friendly and approachable. The college taught us to be so. Ragging was a banned. College Union Committee was set up to keep such activities in check.

Exam Structure

An academic year was divided into two semesters and each semester had two exams. The ATKT examinations were held separately, had different dates. If someone had missed an exam because of a genuine reason, the college would allow them to appear for the examination at a later date.

Faculty

4.5

Not many students opt for a BA in Philosophy. I chose a Major in Philosophy purely because i liked the subject and the teachers were very good with their jobs.

Quite substandard and below average. Prioritised rote learning over critical thinking. Just a rubber stamp for a degree. No actual education ever took place. Exams were anually or bi annually. Exams were difficult if you cannot write 30 pages in 3 hours.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculam is designed for all round development of the student and to make that person an expert in that field, these aspects influeneced me to choose it. Very well, with extra paper of real world application on each subject it ensures that we take something from the course and become industry ready The teachings methods and cirriculam are excellent I don't think any changes are required Exams are all year round, every month and are extremly difficult to deal with, as Xavier's bar is very high.

Yes, there is no specific place where we get to know that whether the college is open or not on a specific day like the day which has been declared closed by the government. The college doesn’t provide this facility for us. We have to move all towards our home to the college to get this thing.
