Course Curriculum Overview
Economics department of the university has a very good placement records. The course structure is designed to prepare students for industry challenges. Course also includes field trips so to impart field knowledge. Syllabus is designed to help students in research or any further competive exams.
Placement Experience
Placement of the economics department is not very bad. Some top companies like accenture, delloite, genpact, HSBC visits our campus. Their recruitment process involves 2-3 rounds of tests and interview. There is also separate placement committee who invites companies and try their best to make maximum students placed.
College Events
Our department does not organize any big cultural events. Some workshops are organized from time to time to provide quality education. Also lectures by some prominent guests are organized by our faculties.Inter college events are organized. Apart from our department there are some departments and colleges at UG level of Calcutta University which organizes very big cultural events like college fests and also invites celebrities
Fee Structure And Facilities
There is very nominal fee for any PG course in Calcutta University. It's between 2000-3000 for one year. They accept fees via online mode in two installments. Only additional semester fees have to be paid before each semester which ranges between400-600 rs. The fee is very less as compared to other universities. University is very transparent in fee-breakdown.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I haven't opted for any scholarship but there are some provided by the W. B govt. like kanyashouree yojana, vivekanand scholarship and others. These scholarships are provided on the basis of marks obtained in previous exams. There is some minimum marks required to be eligible for the scholarship. There are some scholarships for minority students also. These scholarships are only for the domicile of WB.
Campus Life
There is a separate campus alloted to the post graduate students of Calcutta University which is in B.T Road. Boys to girls ratio in our department is 1:3. Our department is popularly known as Kantakol. The freshers and farewell parties of our department is one the best of the university. Holi, diwali everything is celebrated with a great joy in Kantakol. Time to time different workshops are arranged by our faculty members as well as students for imparting value to our knowledge. We also have Students Union which is always there for their fellow friends. Cultural societies also are doing well. We are completely against Ragging and any kind of physical or mental harassments. Department gets proper funding from the university.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni of our department are very helpful. They are always ready for their juniors especially when it comes to placements.
Admission
Economics Department of Calcutta University is one of the best in the country. Admission is done based on merit and also on the basis of entrance exams for some courses. Separate seats are reseved for students to be admitted on the basis of merit and entrance exams.
Faculty
Faculties are really very good with average experience of each faculty not less tha 12 years. Almost every faculty is PHd holder with excellent academic records. In each semester they take almost 20 lectures. They also provide students with ppt of class lectures.
