Remarks

The University is really good however, infrastructure needs to be improved. The University itself isn't well maintained. The washourooms are not that clean and lack latest equipments. The faculty at times slack off on their jobs.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is amazing. In the first semester students are taught khayal, in the second, Bengali songs, in the third, kirtan and dhourupad, in the fourth knowledge of raga and folks songs and taal and laya, in the fifth, thumri and taal again, in the sixth, pala kirtan, khayal, dhourupad etc. Overall, the Bachelor's course offers a variety of styles of Indian music equipping the student very well in the future so that he can establish himself as a successful musician or musicologist. The students have to create their own account in the website. Once the form is filled up, students must take a printout of the filled form. Within weeks, on the same website, a list of candidates eligible for the entrance exam is published. This eligibility is based on the marks obtained by the students in their board exams of 12th standard. Minimum eligibility criteria is 50%. In the published list, students will be alloted dates and will be given PDF versions of admit cards in their accounts which they need to take a print out of and carry for the first round of entrance exams, i.e the practical exam. After this process is over, within two weeks another list will be published, short listing candidates who have qualified for the second round, i.e the theory examination. The old admit card will do. No new admit card will be issued. A syllabus will be published on the same website and the students have to appear for the exam on the given date. To get admitted, students need to pay a sum of ?1665 thourough the same website. The faculty of the university are really good. They are well educated research scholars and have a vast knowledge of the subjects they teach. However classes are not held regularly in the first two months of the semester. At times the faculty is unable to complete the syllabus on time.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.
