Remarks
The college management manages the institute very well. Student communities are also constituted every year which act as the mode of communication between the students and the management.
Course Curriculum Overview
The institute offers three undergraduate programs namely, B Tech in Aerospace Engineering, B Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics) and a Dual degree program with B Tech in Engineering Physics + MS in either of the four: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Solid State Physics, Optical Engineering and Earth System Science. The curriculum of all the programs is heavily industry based, specifically towards the space research industry since it is run by the Department of Space, Government of India. The students also get access to various ISRO and DoS centres for different projects amd internships.
Placement Experience
The institute has a provision of placement into various ISRO and DoS centres across the country based on the vacancies provided by the centres and subject to the students obtaining a CGPA above 7.5 at the end of the course. The students can also do their internships and final year projects in various ISRO and DoS centres. The institute also has MoUs signed with multiple international institutions where selected students can do their internship.
College Events
The institute has a cultural event called Dhanak and a technical event called Conscientia. Both of these are one of the biggest festivals in south Kerala. Both the festivals are held in alternate semesters and are wholly managed by the students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The DoS offers an assitanceship to all the students securing a GPA above 7.5 in a semester. This assistance works on a per semester basis. Students not eligible for this assistance have to pay a fee of 48,500 per semester. A partial relaxation in fees is also given to the reseved category students.
Fees and Financial Aid
As mentioned before the DoS offers an assitanceship to all the students securing a GPA above 7.5 on a per semester basis making the semester effectively free.
Campus Life
The campus community is relatively less in number compared to other prominent institutes. The total population of the students is approximately 700-800. About 20-25% of the community are female students. The students come from all tge regions of the country and belong to different religions and economic backgrounds. There is no discrimination of any kind between the students either by the administration or the community. There are also a lot of clubs that function inside the campus catering to the interests of different students. Some of these include an Aerospace club, a Physics club, an Astronomy club, a Music club and many more. Apart from the two major cultural and technical festivals a small cultural programme including different performances by the students is also a regular occurence every semester. The institute also has a sports meet and inter house matches in different games every year.
Hostel Facilities
All the hostel rooms are shared on a dual sharing basis. The rooms are well maintained and the hostels are cleaned everyday. The institute being a fully residential institute requires all UG and PG students to reside in the hostels throughout their course.
Alumni/Alumna
There is a well established alumni network and seniors are always available to help whether it be for studies or organizing festivals. Due to the small population the amount of interaction between the people is much more.
Admission
In order to be eligible for admission the applicant needs to appear in JEE (Advanced) and then be in the rank list of the institute which will be made based on the JEE (Advanced) marks of all the applicants. The registration process opens tentatively in late may and ends by mid june.
Faculty
All the faculty of the institute hold a Phd degree and are highly qualified. The student to teacher ratio is also one of the best in the country. Many of the senior professors have also been involved in various ISRO and DoS projects. The total number of faculty members is 98 hailing from 19 different states.
