Remarks

Overall my college and department is quite nice.It still needs many improvements. There are no hostel facilities,no social life.Teaching and Educational parts are good but not well maintained. The college playground is way too small. The college need a few improvements.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The Course Curriculum is a bit hard as compared to the other engineering boards like MAKAUT and JU.Marks obtained are also less.Obtaining a GPA around 8-8.5 is considered way above average. Exam structure is also very different from others and very scientific.Questions asked in semester exams require in depth knowledge and logical thinking capability.Overall the exam structure is quite advanced and designed in a scientific manner.

Placement Experience

3

The truth of my department Optics and Optoelectronics is that its a research oriented department, thereby mainly focusing on making students develop a mindset of scientific thinking and logical reasoning.Placements are less compared to other colleges but still students do get placed with a job package of around 4-6 lpa. My college provides internship. My overall experience was a very learning one as I had worked on the Lighting part and learned fairly. There was no stipend for my internship, but students do get stipend in different projects around 5000 rupees.per month

College Events

2

Our college has a number of events to start with.We celebrate Saraswati Puja in college every year which is celebrated in quite a grand way. Then comes the International Day of Light celebration where we arrange various seminars and night sky watching events. Then the annual fest of our college "ALL-GO-RYTHM".It includes a cultural night and various competitions like coding, robo wars, and various sports events like chess, badminton, cricket etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee Structure is very feasible. In this current financial year we have to pay six thousand rupees as semester fee and five hundred rupees as examination fee. This subsidised fee is very well justified because it is a government college.

Fees and Financial Aid

University of Calcutta offers many scholarships.Loan facility is not offered by our university because the ammount of fee is very minimalistic. Scholarships are also given to the needy students. The University also provides scholarships to rank holders of every department.

Campus Life

3.5

Sports event happens every year. And the most interesting part is every year all the faculty members and the students play cricket together to create a strong bonding. There is physics, chemistry, electronics and humanities lab.Our department includes optics lab with various apparatus that are only found here.We also have an illumination lab and computer lab facilities.

Hostel Facilities

1

No hostel facility is available for students admitted in Technology Campus of University of Calcutta. Students either opt for a P.G or rent a flat in Sukantanagar Sector 4 ,Salt Lake City.I myself live in outskirts of Kolkata and thereby live in a rented flat.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is very strong in our department and our college. Every department has their own alumni association. They arrange a annual reunion party every year. Senior students are very helpful. Even some of them are doing research work here.

Admission

Admission in the B.Tech couse is possible only through WBJEE Ranking.Students need to give the WBJEE engineering entrance exam and secure a decent rank to get admission here. After the WBJEE results are out, councelling takes place and in the councelling panel we have to add University of Calcutta, Technology Campus to get admission in this College.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of our department consists of a dedicated team. They have a PhD in the field of Applied Optics. The main problem in our department is the presence of very less number of faculties thereby relying heavily on external professors and guest lecturers.

Placements depends on your skills Usually there is a compulsory internship at the end of 3rd year If you didnt get it via college you should do it from outside but its compulsory And at the end of 4th year you get placement. Placemeng isnt 100% . If you have the skill you will get placed thats the criteria.many people say you are in IIT your life is sorted .but that aint the reality

Most of the goo companies would come and mostly for software finance consulting etc. The placements start in the second last semester as far as i know. The competition for placement is getting really high these days

I read in CSE(AIML) AI ML perspective and couse curriculam inluenced me to admit in college. Teachers often make real-world applications gor any pariculatr topic. I think more practical based an implement based curriculam should be added rather than more theorital subs. Most case college is form 9am -5 pm Like (9-5 job) .

Course Curriculum Overview:

The university is MAKAUT so the curriculum is up to the mark. I liked Programming so I chose B.TECH in CSE. The curriculum is very basic in terms of practical world problem though they are building blocks, but you need to do the extra bit of work to qualify for the real world scenarios. I think more mandatory projects integrated with current set of skills would be a cherry on top. Exams are very frequent like every 3-4 months there is a semester exam and they are moderately difficult.
