Entrance Preview
NIFT has a the part entrance test for the design course the first part is called GAT (General Ability Test) which includes MCQ's of english reasoning & maths the second part is CAT (Creative Ability Test) where you will be required to Draw & Represent various questions the first & the second part test is conducted together if you clear these two exams then you will be called to give the third test at various NIFT centres in India it is called Situation test here you will be required to represent a question in 3D form.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is one of the best in this field and prepares you with both academic & practical knowledge. Most importantly the practical aspect of everything that you becomes a major part in the 3rd & 4th Year where students will be working in the Industry for a cumulative time of about 8 months.
Internships Opportunities
The students have 3 internships to complete during the course. The first internship is at a Craft Cluster and is easily set up through the ministry of textiles. The other two industry internships are easily accessible through the wide faculty industry alumnus network. The stipend is moderately paid. Sometimes you might not even be paid a stipend if you are working in companies for the first time.
Placement Experience
The job opportunities are moderate as the design industry requires individuals with a certain sensibility and placement is not based on marks.
College Events
The Institute has three major festivals round the year converge an Intra NIFT sport cultural meet of all centre fashion olympiad an Intra NIFT Design meet of all centres spectrum a yearly college festival held at each NIFT Centre.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is not expensive if compared to other design colleges the fees is about 1.35 to 1.50 Lakhs a year based on your course the also increases at a rate of 10% each year.
Fees and Financial Aid
NIFT only offers need based subsidy to student who perform academically as well the subsidy ranges from 45% 100% based on the students need and concurrent academic performance.
Campus Life
The campus life is awesome as there is a lot of exposure to the industry and inter disciplinary learning the labs and facilities are state of the art and can rival industrial standards the college has a 70:30 sex ratio for Girls:Boys and has no issues with LGBT Students they are treated as a normal student and the focus is on an individuals ideas and expression rather that his/her sexual orientation.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel & mess food is not available at all the Centres across India my centre NIFT, New Delhi has no Accommodation facility but it is easy to find out cheap accommodation closely my nearby accommodation area has students from NIFT & AIIMS living in it
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is very strong in NIFT and you get to learn a lot from them we have regular interaction with past alumni Like Sabyasachi MukherJEE & Manish Arora to name a few they inspire and help students at the same time.
Exam Structure
The marking and Exam is processed based thus you will be marked throughout the year rather than being judged on just one exam you will have 2 Pre Midterm Submissions followed by 1 Mid Term Evaluation this will be followed by 2 Post Midterm Submissions/Eva
Faculty
The Faculty is very good and provides you with constructive feedback which helps the student grow as person & a designer the teaching methodology is Practical Based so you will never find yourself in a bad situation once you start doing a job.
