The entrance exam is purely merit based(no reservations in any criteria) so it guarentees that the students that attend here are the best guys and ensures best peers. Library is well equipped. Biggest auditorium in South India. And there are a lot of other things that makes bits a wonderful College.
Course Curriculum Overview
One of the best. Inspired from Massachusetts institute of technology. They give us freedom to choose our own timetable, professors ,electives etc. Exams are usually as follows 1.quizzes(surprise or announced) 2.mid semester 3.comprehensive
Placement Experience
The placements are really good both in core and IT. Companies like google, microsoft, Accenture,qualcomm,credit suisse etc are regulars. There is a program similar to internship called practice school. We have 2 sessions of those.PS1 and PS 2 done during the summer after 2nd year and the other during 4th year. There are also projects that we can work alongside a professor.
College Events
There are four fests every year. ATMOS-Technical fest Pearl-cultural fest Arena- sports fest Verba maximus-literary fest These fests are popular all over India and gather crowds from all over India. At every fest there are musicians, stand-up comedians etc. Entrepreneurs and noteworthy guests give inspirational and informative talks. Workshops are conducted. overall fests are a a wonderful time to enjoy with friends.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure might come off as a bit expensive but it is totally worth it. The tuition fee per semester right now is 1.72L. combined with all the other fees including hostel,food eyc it is roughly 2.3L. The college has the right to increase the tuition fee every year bit is capped at 15%.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are 2 scholarships offered by the college. 1. Merit 2. Merit cum need Merit scholarship is based purely on the semester's gpa and anyone who scores high enough can get it. Merit cum need or MCN can be applied only by families whose annual income is less than 8L. Also SBI offers "scholar" loan as bits is a premier institute which has a lower interest rate and doesn't need any surity for a loan less than 20L.
Campus Life
Labs are one of the best in India. They are very well equipped and can be used by students whenever they need to,even outside of course mandated labs, with a permission from concerned faculty. Sports are encouraged in bits. There is a football field,a cricket field,hockey field ,badminton arena,cue sports,table tennis,volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts etc. There are teams representing the University and interested players can try out to be in the team.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is compulsory for all students and most of the faculty. (The faculty have quarters) The hostels are well maintained. Every hostel has 3-4 chowkidars who take care of maintenance issues,1 superintendent and a warden who is a professor. Also every hostel has a full time available plumber, electrician and carpenter.
Alumni/Alumna
Bits probably has the best alumni network in India. There are facebook groups where we can freely interact with any alumni in any field of work, there is an app in which we can text any alumni. Alumni together have an association called BITSAA. they provide scholarships,guide students etc. The seniors are the most helpful part of college. They help us get adjusted to the education system as it is radically different from standard indian colleges. As we have to pick our own timetable and professors, seniors help us out a lot by sharing their experiences with rhe professors.
Admission
There is an exam -Bitsat. And based on the score we obtain in the exam we need to apply for the courses of our choice. There are five iterations with a chance to move up your preferences after every iteration. Bitsat is usually conducted during the last week of may spanning usually about 10 days. On the day of reporting a lot of student volunteers will be helping out us getting through the admission process.
Faculty
They are one of the top faculty. A lot of screening goes into hiring the faculty and even after they are hired they are constantly monitored. We can always vist their chambers for any queries.They always help you understand the concepts.
