Remarks
Overall, college is a very well-managed institution. Every government set up has it's share of administrative bureaucracy, but the student's grievances and suggestions are warmly welcomed. There is a continuous addition to the infrastructure and pedagogy, making it one of the topmost colleges of the country, and probably the 2nd best undergraduate management college of Asia.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is updated regularly to suit industrial needs. Each year is divided into 2 semesters, each semester having its own term-end exams. The 1st and 3rd year consist of 4 subjects each semester, while the 2nd year consists of 5 subjects each. Research projects are encouraged, which help the students gain useful and in-depth insights into their subjects of interest.
Placement Experience
The career development cell, as the placement cell of SSCBS is called, has an excellent network in the industry and facilitates on-campus placements for all the students each academic year. To be eligible for placements, students are required to complete an internship at the end of their 2nd year, which should be at least 6 weeks long. Internship support is also provided by the placement cell.
College Events
Our college probably has the largest number of student societies (32) across DU, with new societies and cells mushrooming every year. The college celebrates Convergence, the annual corporate event, which hosts a number of popular figures as speakers from different domains. SSCBS also organizes Crescendo, the annual cultural fest where all the cultural societies contribute to the multi-faceted event.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is very affordable, considering the level of infrastructure of the college and the niche professional courses. The annual tuition fee for BMS is approximately Rs.15000. This is inclusive of the library, state of the art computer labs, etc. Overhead expenses would include the student's personal expenses on food, books, recreation, etc.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
Being from a financially sound background, I did not need to avail of any financial aid. However, many schemes are available, the information of which is available on the college website.
Campus Life
The 5-acre campus is a hub of fresh minds, which promotes the quality of time spent on campus. The gender ratio is fairly equal and students from diverse backgrounds gather here to attain quality education. Students from all over India and also from other countries can be spotted. A major chunk, nonetheless, is on North-Indian students.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel fee is approximately Rs.65000 per semester. Although this is slightly high for a government college, the histel facilities completely justify the price. The rooms are available on a triple-sharing basis, with separate hostel wings for girls and boys, each having 72 seats. Each room is equipped with an attached bathroom, running water, personal geysers, and an air conditioner-cum-heater.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has recently opened the Alumni Relations and Outreach Cell, which conducts annual alumni meet. Various alums pursuing diverse fields also visit the college from time to time to interact with the students and guide them.
Admission
SSCBS is the topmost college among 9 colleges of DU which take admissions in Undergraduate Management Courses through an entrance exam, popularly known as the DUJAT. I appeared for the DUJAT on 22nd June 2018 from the Mumbai center and secured the 18th overall rank. You are first required to fill up the application form and pay the requisite admission fee on the official DU website.
Faculty
The faculty is certainly the cherry on the cake. Cream of the cream professors and lecturers are chosen to teach in this college. Some of them may be a little average, but most of the faculty itself comes from world-renowned academic and research institutions and have a plethora of knowledge in their subject. They are very helpful and approachable even outside the paradigm of their job.
