UIET, Kurukshetra - A technical campus in a religious city

UIET, Kurukshetra is a very good college if and only if you are concerned with only education and placement. But if you are more of a cultural person, you should think about it twice.

The course curriculum is well designed. Up to 2nd year, you may have to study some subjects which are not relevant to Computer Science students, but from the 3rd year, the subjects taught are quite significant. The subjects are in accordance with the latest technologies in the field of Computer Science like Big data, Machine Learning and Neural Networks.

As far as the placements are concerned, nearly all of the students from computer science without active backlogs are placed in more than one company at the average package of 3.5 LPA. Most notable companies visiting the campus are Yamaha Solutions, Infosys, Wipro, and IBM India. However, there is no opportunity for internships.

Every year, the annual cultural and technical fest known as 'EXCELSIOR' is held in our college. A number of celebrity singers and boy bands visit our college. Last year, the famous Punjabi singer 'Kadir Thind' and boy band 'Khalnayak' visited the campus. Apart from this, the Haryanvi youth festival 'Ratnawali' is also celebrated every year at the University. Moreover, various sports events are also held from time to time.

As UIET is self-financed, the fees are comparatively higher than other government engineering institutes. But still it is significantly low. Semester fees is around 30000. The first semester fees were a little bit higher around 35000 as it included various ad-hoc charges like registration fees, security, etc.

I have not opted for any scholarship or educational loan, but scholarships are available for SC/ST students.

Campus life is quite good as a number of popular religious places are very close to the campus. You can walk to the Brahmasarovar during Geeta Jayanti festival, or take an autorickshaw to any other tourist place. The gender ratio is very poor as for our batch i.e. 1:6. However, it has improved in the junior batches. As for extracurricular activities, the cultural clubs are banned in UIET. However, the college encourages participation in sports.

Kurukshetra University provides a number of hostels to account for large no. of students opting for hostels on the campus. In the first and second years, I was a part of Shaheed Bhagat Singh hostel and in the 3rd and 4th year, I am a part of Harsh Bhawan. Comparatively, Harsh Bhavan is better as it has single rooms, more cleanliness, and better food, but at the same time, it is more expensive.

Our college has an average alumni network. Alumni meet known as 'Milaap' are held every once in 2-3 years to strengthen the alumni network.

The admissions to UIET, Kurukshetra are done through HSTES counselling which is a combined counselling for all the government and most of the private colleges of Harayana. JEE Mains exam was held in the month of April and the counselling was done in the month of July based on the ranks of JEE mains examination. For CSE, the minimum rank should be around 1,00,000.

The faculty of the college is well qualified. Some teachers are very cooperative and friendly and treat students like friends. Some teachers may seem to be rude and overly sarcastic, but they always think about the benefit of students. Unlike many other colleges, teachers always come to take their lectures and are available most of the time.
