IIT Delhi’s Engineering Physics program offers a strong curriculum with industry-relevant courses and a solid research focus, but BITS Pilani’s BE in Computer Science is renowned for its excellent faculty and superior placement opportunities, especially in tech. Campus life at IIT Delhi is vibrant with numerous clubs and events, while BITS also has a lively culture but may lack in some infrastructure aspects. Both colleges have strong faculty, but IIT Delhi’s professors often have more research credentials. If you’re passionate about research and want a good all-around experience, IIT Delhi is great; however, if you’re leaning towards a career in tech with better placement prospects, BITS Pilani would be the smarter choice.

This is coming from an IIITD alumnus, so I can vouch for it.

Here at IIITD, the credit load is way too high, and you won't get to enjoy a great and fun college life. You can't explore much.

And don’t go by the answers saying that EP students get low-paying jobs. I know several people in IITD EP who landed consulting and SDE (Visa) roles with pretty good pay.

I totally get the dilemma! Here are some key points to help you make a solid decision.

If placements are your main concern, BITS CS is clearly the better option. However, if you’re considering other factors like brand prestige, there are some excellent but lesser-known courses at IITs that you can get into even with a decent JEE rank (around 4-5k). Here are a few to consider:

  • Integrated M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics at IIT Roorkee: This program has a small batch size of 11 students with fantastic placements. It’s not pure mathematics; it involves applied mathematics with a lot of CS courses, allowing students to sit for placements in CS and ECE companies.
  • Geophysical Technology at IIT Roorkee: This course attracts oil and mining companies for placements. Last year, the average pay package for graduates was 21 LPA!
  • Textile Technology at IIT Delhi: While I can’t provide specific placement figures, it’s relatively easy to transition into industrial engineering based on your first-year CGPA, which is quite similar to Mechanical Engineering courses.

Consider these options carefully!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Engineering Physics offers a strong curriculum with a focus on research and industry needs, while BITS Pilani’s BE in Computer Science is highly regarded for its excellent placement opportunities and competitive salary packages. In terms of fees, IIT Delhi has a more complex structure depending on categories, but BITS generally has a clearer fee system and better ROI due to its consistently high placement rates. Both colleges have scholarships, but IIT Delhi’s MCM scholarships can help ease financial burdens for some students. If you’re passionate about physics and research, IIT Delhi might be the better fit, but if you're looking for immediate job prospects and a more straightforward financial path, BITS Pilani would likely be the smarter choice.

Both IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Engineering Physics and BITS Pilani for BE in Computer Science have solid reputations, but they cater to different career paths. IIT Delhi's placement cell is robust, with top companies offering internships that pay between 30,000 to 75,000 per month, particularly in fields like mechanical engineering. However, BITS Pilani has a strong focus on computer science, and its graduates often land high-paying tech jobs due to the booming demand in the industry.

If your goal is a career in tech, BITS Pilani might edge out with better job package prospects, while IIT Delhi could be better if you're interested in research and interdisciplinary roles. Ultimately, choose IIT Delhi if you lean towards research and diverse opportunities, but go for BITS Pilani if you're set on a career in computer science.
