How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Mechanical Engineering and NSUT B.Tech Computer Engineering?

The answer really depends on your interests.

• If you love programming and have a passion for Computer Science, then go for it!
• But if you're okay with Mechanical Engineering, my suggestion is IIT Delhi.
• It's definitely a better option, and the Mechanical branch is solid!

IIT Delhi Mechanical is a fantastic choice!

NSIT is among the top colleges in the country, right after the top 7 IITs. And IIT is, well, IIT. There's no denying its status as the most prestigious college in India. IIT Delhi has a strong reputation in mechanical engineering, while NSIT excels in computer engineering.

If you choose IIT, you’ll always have that IIT tag to showcase. However, if you have even a slight interest in computer science and believe you can thrive in that field, I recommend pursuing computer science from any college you get into. After all, you’ll be spending four years in that field, and you don’t want to look back and regret the path not taken.

Placements for both colleges are, in my opinion, quite comparable. However, securing jobs in core mechanical engineering can be challenging, and many mechanical engineers end up in software roles. On the other hand, opportunities in computer engineering are booming, and a degree from NSIT will definitely lead to respectable job offers.

PS: Last year, 8 students from NSIT joined Google with packages of 1.25 crore PA.

In contrast, while NSUT's B.Tech in Computer Engineering likely has a solid curriculum, it doesn’t quite match the breadth of internships or the prestige of recruitment seen at IIT Delhi. Therefore, if you're leaning towards a tech-centric career, IIT Delhi is the clear choice for better job prospects and higher packages, while NSUT may suit those with a strong interest in local opportunities or a more niche focus.

If I were in that position, I would think about it this way instead of choosing Mechanical Engineering (my top priority is placements):

• I would have considered Electrical Engineering or Mathematics and Computing at some older IITs.
• If that wasn’t an option, I would have opted for a five-year course at old IITs.
• If neither of those worked out, I would have either gone for a new IIT with Computer Science or chosen Computer Science Engineering at colleges like BITS Pilani, DTU, NSUT, or IIIT.

In contrast, NSUT's B.Tech in Computer Engineering, while likely offering decent placements, doesn't match the prestige and diverse internship options available at IIT Delhi. The comprehensive curriculum at IITD provides hands-on learning that translates well into high-paying roles, making it a smarter financial choice for students aiming for lucrative careers. If you’re set on a career in tech and can manage the fees, IIT Delhi is the way to go; however, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option and still want to enter the tech field, NSUT could be a viable choice.
